Lumine, its so great that you have found a good supportive gyni. I didn't know that Dr Moller was so supportive of home birth. Sue is a great midwife. Who is going to be your doula?

My friend remarried and had VBAC a year ago. She did it at home, in the birthing pool, with a help of midwife from Genesis - Susan King. It wasn't an easy labor for her, as she tend to make large babies and Susan had to do a small cut, so that the large head comes through. But she did it! The baby is running around now and very peaceful, healthy and happy baby. The mother recovered the cut fairly quickly. With regards to gynae, I was going to Dr Moller in Fourways Life Hospital, and when I told him I am going to do a home birth with Susan King, he just looked at me and said: "Ok, good for you!" Nothing more. That's when I realised he is a good doctor, who won't try and talk you out of it. So, my message is, you can find a good doctor who will support your decision and you can do successful VBAC. If your pregnancy is healthy - go for it.

Elamsmom, yes Genisis is fully covered by medical aid.

Elamsmom,

I had my LB at Genesis last year (via emergency c-section). The medical aid paid in full - and as far as I've heard, they could actually end up cheaper than the average hospital.
The full price list should be on their website www.genesisclinic.co.za

When we try for no 2 I will be going there again, to try for a VBAC.

Hi Babyshoes

We're in the same position. We're also trying for a 2nd baba & i really don't wanna have another caesar (though my 1st one was elective)

I've also been advised to go to Genesis & a midwife called Sue King has been advised as the best and one who has done many successful vbac's before.

Hasie, does medical aid pay the same way as if you were using a normal private hospital? Isn't Genesis much more expensive? That is one of my concerns.

My current gynae is not keen to do the vbac. He's worried about the risks. I'm afraid he keeps saying we must talk about it closer to the time but I'm afraid by that he means he'll talk me out of it closer to the time.

Hi Baby shoes,

You can go to Genisis clinic. They have gynies who are truly pro-vbac. And go chat to the girls at mother instinct, they can advise you on all things natural... www.motherinstinct.co.za

About the tearing, if you tear (and its not a given, with the right preparation you probably won't tear) it heals within a couple of days. With my first (normal but not so natural birth) I had a very bad tear caused by an assisted delivery. It healed within 5 days and I didn't have painful intercourse afterwards.

Go and read this lady's blog and her birth stories, plus her info on VBAC: thefeministbreeder.com
