Hi all,
I am sorry I am answering so late, but I didn't tick the box to get an email when there is an answer and I totally forgot about coming and check (I guess is the preggie brain ;))

Joybaby, I am living nowadays in Durbanville. We moved top SA a couple of years ago and one of the reasons was because my hubby is from SA.

The twins pregnancy has been quite an overwhelming news. But I am really excited about it!.

Bubs, you will see that SA has wonderful medical care (private sector), so you will be in good hands here.

If you allow me to recommend a Gynae/Obs, I highly recommend Dr. Truter in Durbanville. I have him as a Dr. and my hubby and me are really happy about the decision.

The shopping was okay, I am controlling myself until I am in a more advance state, but so far I found really nice things! :)

Have a wonderful week!!

Welcome to SA!!!

For antenatal classes that are focused on natural childbirth, see www.beautifullyborn.co.za

Hypnobirthing is well known in Australia, so maybe you are familiar with it already. You will also find great advice on midwifes ect from our Cape town practitioners.

Good luck with all your organizing!!

Hi Pippi!

Twins...how exciting!! CONGRATULATIONS!

How did your shopping go? I land in Cape Town tomorrow and am excited to start the shopping spree.

Where are you from? How long have you been in SA?

Sorry for all the questions, it is sounds silly but it is reassuring to know someone else is in the same situation.

Cheerio,
Bubs

Welcome to SA Pippi. Where are you from and why the big move?
Be sure to join the group of the month you're due so you can interact and get to know some of the moms in your area with kids of similar ages.

All the best with your twins!
I just had my 2nd baby, and think we are pretty well off as far as availability of resources and skills regarding gynaes, paeds and shops. Otherwise you can always go on Ebay or bidorbuy.co.za and look there too!

First angel resting 25/06/2009 stayed with us a short 7 weeks but we still miss you.

Hi Lientjie and Joybaby,

I was just lucky enough to come across your answers to Bubs and all the information you provided.

I am also a foreigner preggie in SA and I am quite lost.
Your answers have help a lot and I am visiting some of the shops you mention this afternoon (for prams, cots...etc), just to have an idea of what I will find closer to the due date.

I am actually expecting twins and I am still freaking out and in shock about it, as it is my first pregnancy and far away from my family, friends and doctors...

Thank you once again for having taking the time to answer Bubs and therefore giving me the possibility to find some of the answers to my questions.

Bubs, you'll be fine in SA. Yes we are different to Australia but nothing like deepest darkest Africa! I was in Tanzania for my first pregnancy, now that was challenging!

My first was natural (had my little girl back in SA though) and I just told my gynae what I wanted - and lots of positive thinking and encouragement from friends who had had natural. 2nd little boy was an emergency c-section, but i am also grateful for technology that probably saved both our lives!

You'll have a blast here, especially Cape Town, there are worse places to be stuck in, especially in Africa.

Good luck and keep on Moomie - we'll all be here for you
