file Gift ideas for pregnant wife

Couple counselling is always a great idea - you know, how a baby changes and puts strain on even the strongest relationship.

A weekend away for her - with 2 of her girlfriends when baby is 3 months old. You stay home with baby.

If you do not have one - a full time maid for one month - or forever, which ever you can afford.

A night nurse from week 2 - 6. She will argue with you about it, but trust me when she has a full nights sleep and is not going insane, she might fall on the floor and kiss your shoes.

An afternoon of hair, pedicure and manicure when baby is 3 weeks old - you arrange to be home with baby from 12h00 and send her with a friend to go out and have a peaceful afternoon.

A voucher that you will get up for the first 6 weeks for Friday and Saturday night so that she can sleep through the night. (She has 5 other days where she is doing it, 2 days off will mean sanity for her.)

Read a few books written by women (or blogs) regarding how sh&t we feel in the first three months. Learn and listen - suggesting sex, suggesting anything that means you are on a couch watching rugby, suggesting you are tired, suggesting you really need a break - is not a great idea.

That alone can be a gift in itself.

Promise you will not work late for the first 6 weeks, - actually arrange to leave work early - so you are home EVER day by 3pm to help with the dinner/fetching other child/cleaning/bathing baby or what ever.

Whether this is your 1st, 2nd, or 15th, I can guarantee your wife loves you, but at some point is going to want to kill you and bury you in the backyard. The fact that you know this, the fact that you can have empathy (and some understanding) for what she is going through physically/emotionally or what ever is so HUGE - I would take that as a gift any day.

Stop me - if I am giving you too much in the way of suggestions.

I wrote this post quite a long time ago ... it might still ring true.

Struggling to juggle life, kids, work, my bottle of wine, without having a total humour failure.

I have a letter from my pdoc to say I am insane, so tread lightly with me, some days I can be a total bitch. I'm lying. Most days I am a total bitch.

I abhor smiley face icons. Just saying.

Maternity photo shoot is an awesome idea. Maybe a nice car valet (I know boring but I love a clean car) and A SPA VOUCHER!!!

I vote for a nice spa day before baby is born. Most spa's have nice pregnancy pampering packages. Have her nails done etc, before my first baby was born, i went for a manicure and pedicure (also a gift from my hubby) and one of the first things I noticed when looking at the birth pics, was my neat manicured hands holding the most perfect vernix covered newborn baby. We tend to forget that our hands are in most of baby's newborn pics...

The spa idea is a lovely one.
Also depends what she likes - if she likes reflexology then a voucher for 3 or 4 sessions might also be nice.
If there's food she's been missing/longing for then make up a hamper of those things - e.g. biltong, favourite brie/camembert, etc - the things she's been avoiding whilst pregnant.
If she loves sushi then a voucher for sushi - my friend told her husband she doesn't want him to bring her roses in the hospital - she wants salmon roses!
