you could give birth at Liesbeeck Active Birth Unit at Mowbray Maternity without living in the area. i was there yesterday and it's R4500 to give natural birth. i'm at the public side, which is not bad at all - just takes very long to do anything whenever i go. but you have to reside in the area to go to the public side.

As far as I know your choice of government hospital is based on your area.
If you are in Kraaifontein for example you wont be able to go to Karl Bremer unless you can give a family member's address who lives in that area.
They also check your income which determines how much you pay if I'm not mistaken.

I was not referring to a government clinic in Kraaifontein though, but rather MediCross
in Brighton Road who have a private gynae come in for consults and they do natural births at the clinic and referred to Karl Bremer or Tygerberg for emergencies.

Im just copying and pasting something I wrote on another thread.

"I gave birth at a Government Hospital - Somerset Hospital in CPT and to be REALLY honest with you - I did not have a bad experience at all.

I was not on medical aid and went to the Antenatal Clinic throughout my pregnancy too - yes it was crappy to have to get up early every month or so to go see the Dr and go for my check-ups - but I know I was in good hands.

As for my birth - it went well too. The staff were wonderful and I had no complaints".

You can also try Mowbray Maternity if you are wanting natural birth, they are very good.

The medicross clinics do births as well but you go home the same day (use Dr's such as Dr. Atzl)
