Apparently the patch hurts when pulled off, so the cream is better. I also used it, although I can't say it made a difference. It stays eina. :(

Nicky - Calpol also contains paracetamol, so it's pretty much the same as Panado. The Arnica gel is a good idea.

I don't hold my LG either. The whole idea is that you are the one to give the comfort afterwards, not be part of the hurting.

Good luck! My next turn is in 3weeks time...

thanks all,

Julz, i let him just handle it the first 2 times, but i CANT listen to him scream like that, and it is that damn prevenar again tomorrow, so im going prepared this time.

The clinic sister told me to give panado before? i wonder why they are always divided regarding issues like this...

nicky - if i can give u advise, dont hold ur lo. the sister normally just puts them on the mattress, and you put ur hand on his/her chest and just speak to them while she gives the injection. she will maybe ask you to hold baba's hand out of the way or something. but i couldnt handle holding my baba. my friend said that the sister asked her dh to hold their baby, and afterwards he started screaming when he dad just came near him for the rest of the day. dont to that to urself. it differs from sister to sister, because the other one asked me if i wanted to hold him and i just said no, but im there the whole time, and i hold his hand and keep my hand on his chest and my face against his. it still sucks though.... :(

Lientjie , can I give Calpol , I was advised to give 1.5ml will it also effect the effectiveness of the vacc's ?

I'm also gonna put Arnica gel on her leg where they give the vacc's they say it helps with the muscle pain.. gosh I hope so , I don't even know if I will be able to hold baby so that they can give the vacc's

Hi ladies!

WRT the routine giving of Panado before and after vacc's: new research have shown that it reduces the effectiveness of the immunisation. Both my paed & clinic sister advised me not to give Panado unless really necessary.

Here's some articles if you're interested:

I have been using it on Connor since his first vaccine, i cant say it made much of a difference for him though. What you can also give is Panado syrup 30 minutes before and then every 4 - 6 hours afterwards including the next day as well.

Good luck. I hate injection time. Connor had his Hepatitis A on Wednesday, broke my heart. Will only get his Chicken Pox and Prevenar in June sometime as they have apparently run out of the chicken pox vaccine!
