thanks girls iv become a person who runs to the doc for every little thing, but iv had enough scares with him to understand that rather i take him and pay for the consult than wait and he lands up in hospital,"rather safe than sorry"

iv had a really tough time with my lb and his my lil angel his so sweet that its unbelievable.
what has recently started bothering is ppl opinions on me and my child, when he fell from the trampoline it was "shame man this child is forever sick or getting hurt" making a joke and saying stuff like" maybe we should call welfare"

it really hurts truly, will i now push my lb off the trampoline? will i make him sick?
sometimes ppl can be so heartless and should learn to keep there opinions to themselves.
plus they kick you when your down

Tess_S - poor nu-nu. Ear stuff is a bit tricky. My first child - as I have spoken about before to you - had huge ear issues, but I thought it was all normal, so did the "wait and see" approach.

My next two kids have never been to an ENT, they have hardly seen the inside of a doctor's office - neither of them have a paed and we don't really use a family doctor because they are never ill.

Only when I compare my first child to his two sisters, do I realise how severe his problems were, and that I possibly should have acted sooner. I just thought it was normal.

But we never really know, and are also reluctant to start having doctors digging around, as once they start, it just never seems to end.

It's so hard to walk that line between over-bearing, hypochondriac parent and a concerned parent needing to know the best for your kids.
I also usually prefer to err on the conservative "wait and see" side, but I think I will be more proactive from now on, after Aran's adenoid drama. When he talked late, I brushed it off as a "late bloomer", when he was still drooling, i thought he'd eventually grow out of it ….. in the meantime the poor tater-tot has this massive build up of fluid in his ear and could not breathe properly at all almost his whole short life!!

Possibly a little known fact - but your ENT can do an eardrum graft if there is a tear or a hole that is not healing, and the conditions are right.

They do it around +5 years old, and it can restore some lost hearing in some cases. But you need to go to an ENT who knows his business.

My son had a tear that was not healing due to numerous ear infections where his ear drums had burst repeatedly (can you imagine how sore that must have been?) We had left it for more than a year to see if it would heal and kept reassessing. He had a 10% hearing loss in his one ear.

Did an ear drum graft (which is like working with a single layer of cells so it is really delicate work) and it took, and next hearing test his hearing was back to normal ranges.

I did not know it existed before my ENT mentioned it to me.
