Hi Ladies,

Boerenooi, good to know that you can pin point when it happens. My LG was only dry from 5 years and 6 months. When I phoned the Urologist when she was 5 years old, they said I should come for another appointment if she is not dry by 5 years and 6 months. Was so surprised that those extra 6 months sorted it out. I have to mention that she didn't have a wet nappy every night, only certain nights, so perhaps not the same situation as yours. Please keep us updated!!

Mrstl, my apologies if it seemed as if I was saying that your mother was cruel, that was not my intention. However you would be surprised how many articles online does recommend star charts or punishment for various bladder/bowel problems with children WITHOUT first checking if there may be any physical problems present. That I find cruel and problematic to the emotional development of a child. I do have the utmost respect for your mother who must have felt very isolated in the 70's without all the information around we have today as well as a more advanced medical system. I know how heavy a mom's heart feels if such a bladder problem persists and all the worries that goes with it. And often not many other moms have a clue what you are going through.

I noticed that when I get to her in the mornings her pee (in her bed) still seems fresh. So, this morning I got up a bit earlier and asked her to quickly go pee and then she got back into bed. It seems like she does it in the mornings. Still going to see if it helps and if she needs to see a dr.

Hi there,

Just to reiterate as per my post, my mom had the star chart after the defect was surgically repaired because I didn't know when I had to "go" so had to learn. She is probably turning in her grave if I gave the impression she was cruel... ;)

I echo the urologist. Rather safe than sorry. If there isn't a medical problem, they will also be able to help with techniques, I think..

Hi Boerenooi,

Having struggled with a child who had numerous UTI's due to a born bladder defect, (which seems to be sorted out thank fully) I can confirm that constipation is a big contributing factor to accidents. My Urologist said numerous times, remember: Make sure she is never constipated!! The times that she still gets an UTI is often when I know she was constipated and couldn't get it sorted out fast enough. I know my child will freak out if I suggest an enema and don't want to put her through the trauma of medical staff performing one.

But ultimately I would recommend you see a good Pediatric Urologist. Where are you based?

I don't think a star chart is going to clear this one up...If there is a medical problem I find it cruel to try and encourage something he or she physically can't do. Just my opinion.

I just happened upon this article whilst actually searching for something entirely unrelated, but thought it might be of interest to you.
I find the wording/tone in the article somewhat harsh, so be warned, but what he speaks about might help.

Thanks for the reply. The wetting only happens when she sleeps at night.
