file TTC: Trying for a girl

1st Timer - I also desperately wanted a girl (2nd and 3rd time around) so do understand how you feel.

I literally held my breath at the 12/13 week scan .... in both cases I expected to see boys. (The 2nd pregnancy I was so sure it was a boy I asked them not to tell me, and even when they pulled baby out, I could not figure out if I was seeing a vulva or testicles ...... and had to ask someone)

I wish you luck and joy what ever happens!

Struggling to juggle life, kids, work, my bottle of wine, without having a total humour failure.

I have a letter from my pdoc to say I am insane, so tread lightly with me, some days I can be a total bitch. I'm lying. Most days I am a total bitch.

I abhor smiley face icons. Just saying.

Thanks everyone. My gynae mentioned Shettles but unfortunately the results aren't statistically significant and yes Andy as you say it does mean we risk missing my fertile time entirely so not really worth trying for us. I have pcos - or had? Have just had second af post birth 4 weeks apart so high hopes my system has reset and we can try naturally.... Would be ecstatic to fall pregnant naturally with either.

RM my son was conceived using clomid as I have pcos so i'm well aware of the miracle of conceiving a baby thanks I just wanted to know if there is any way of tipping the scales not involving Chinese calendars or any other hokum ;) A baby brother to James will not be loved or anticipated any less than a baby sister don't worry!

Baby girl due end November 2012

My person opinion on this is that if it is possible the Beckhams would have got it right before they had 3 boys!

My thinking is if you could throw money at it and get a medical person to work it out for you and get it going, and money was no issue, they would have done it.

Sure we could argue well they are having a girl now, so that must have got it right.

But odds are they had sex, and had a scan like all of us at 12/14 weeks and went hey cool a boy/girl!

There are just too many variables at play here to try to control anything. My thinking falling pregnant alone is a bit of a "miracle" and getting a sperm (any sperm) to an egg and an egg to implant successfully and that to work is such a wonder in itself, to get all worked about whether the boy sperm gets there or a the girl sperm gets there is ..... I am not sure .... just pushing the "luck" envelope....

I hope your TTC turns in a BFP really soon, and whether there is a penis or a vulva in the scan, I hope it is a happy day for you.

I really wanted a girl when we were TTC so I pretty much read up on all there is to know about increasing the chances. So here is some info:

Girl sperms = slow, stronger and last longer
Boy sperms = fast, weaker and have a shorter life span
So BD before ovulation... not just the day before but at least the 4 days leading up to ovulation. They should be waiting for the egg to release the moment it happens.

When TTC for a girl it is recomended that you dont reach orgasm. Orgasms create an alkaline substance that favours boy sperm and helps the weaker boy sperm along with the contaractions followed by an orgasm.

Try shallow penetration such as missionary, the sperms get deposited near the entrance of the vagina where it is more acidic to favour the girl sperm.

Your diet: lots of calcium and magnesium, low salt intake and NO caffeine..... this is to reduce your PH level.

Let DH sit in HOT water before BD'ing this is said to slow down male sperms.

I cannot say that I tried it all, so Im not sure if it works but its worth a try. Even if it fails a healthy happy boy is just as awesome!!!

im expecting 2 girls but we conceived via iui.

the girls were conceived a day apart, the one on the exact day of ovulation and the other a day later.

As Joli sad, there really isisnt a full proof method, unless if you have the money to have a sperm separation and wash. then iui/ ivf for better chances.

All the best to you.

The opposite worked for us. With both Kayla and Megan we had sex on day 14 of my cycle and conceived. With Callum we had sex on the Wednesday and day 14 was only on the Saturday. So that method does not work.
