Hey Kades Mom
I did IUI in Feb 2011 and worked first time for us. We did however do a medicated cycle in Jan 2011 with normal intercourse which didn't work so FS advised we do the IUI in Feb.
I had severe PCOS and my hormone levels were so imbalanced there was just no way I could fall pregnant on my own.
So here goes my experience...
Jan 2011- Did clomid from day 5. The reason for this is because it produces less eggs but better quality and size. IF you take from day 3 you produce more eggs but less quality. First follicle scan, follies weren't big enough. I think they ranged from 8-13mm, so FS gave me FSH injections. Injected myself for a week twice a day. Another scan and the follies were 14-16.5mm. I think I only had 3 follies. Ovidrel was given to trigger the release. FS advised to BD everyday for a week I think. He also gave me progesterone to take from ovulation for two weeks. Unsuccessful cycle.
Feb 2011- Clomid from day 5. First follicle scan, follies ranged from 11-14mm. FSH injections again for a week. Scan again, follies were 16-21mm. The 21mm was the biggest one and I think that was the winner LOL. Then gave ovidrel for release and went back I think 36 hrs later for IUI. IUI day- we went in. Hubby was advised to not ejaculate for 3 days prior to IUI. At the clinic he had to give a sample. Then it was sent to the "sperm doctor" as I call him, he washes it for an hr. We went back after that hr wait and I had to lay on the bed. He inserts a metal thingy (sorry my memory is bad lately LOL) which opens the vagina wide enough to see the cervix opening clearly. Funny enough on the day of the IUI I was getting great CM so I knew I was ovulating. FS inserts a catheter into the cervix and inserts the washed sperm. I was then told to lay still for 30min before getting up and going. I needed to pee afterwards which I later found out you are not supposed to wee for an hr after the procedure. Then the horrible 2 week wait. I again took progesterone from IUI for 2 weeks. The cycle worked. I knew 7dpo that I was preg although ppl warned it was the ovidrel. But I knew I was preg. I was told to carry on with the progesterone for the first trimester.
Since the beginning of Jan 2011, FS advised hubby take sperm-i-prove and I take a prenatal vitamin and 2 stamingro tabs. The staminogro for me was to help with my egg quality. Nowadays FS's are seeing a better response with sperm-i-prove in men than the staminogro. I can vouch for this because hubby was on staminogro for two years and it never helped his sperm quality at all. But also bear in mind that sperm has a 72 day cycle, so whatever you start using for hubby will need that amount of time before you see if it really is effective.
Before they did hubbys sperm wash his sperm count was 57million, 15% morphology. After the wash it was 40million sperm count and 90% morphology.
By doing the sperm wash, the dr could pick up that hubby was sick 2months ago. And he could pick up that hubby was using the wrong underwear.
Men are advised to wear only cotton boxers, since the testicles need to be cooler than the body. So there is a very good reason why its meant to hang LOL.
Before hubby gave the sample the dr advised hubby to wash his tools thoroughly and rinse properly since soap&urine kills sperm. And so does water apparently.
Your follie sizes look good. The 18mm is great. The other not so great. My FS said follies are ideal when between 15mm-22mm. Did your FS not mention anything about FSH injections?
I have heard of ppl doing back to back IUI's. I personally see no harm in doing it since its like a boost really. Although I haven't seen it turn out in BFPs. But thats only from a couple close friends that I have seen.
I really hope you get your BFP

IF it doesn't work this time, maybe ask about FSH injections next cycle. I also am not sure how your other hormone levels are, so can't comment there. And has your hubby got sperm issues?
Hope this helped a little
