as far as i know most schools provide breakfast and lunch then you just have to provide the 10 and 4 oclock snack or give a certain amount and they buy the same snacks to all the kids each week.

but some schools give the snacks too.

my brothers LB is in JHB in a creche and they pay R1600 and have to provide the snacks.

Gerne, it seems you have good deals in pretoria north.

I thought you always had to pack food for the kids. I did not know they are provided for at creche.

Hi

The schools here by us (Wonderboom South) is from R900 - R1200, this includes all meals and snacks. If you put them in half day its R100 less

Then we found a nice school, its actually a primary school and the pre-primary takes kids from 3years old. They ask R600 and something rand then you have to put a sandwich and milk in for breakfast and the rest they provide. Then they have 'school' till 12:30 and afternoon they play. BUT what is nice... they do the same actiivities as the primary school kids, they take part in the sport practise, sports days, kaskar days, bulletjie rugby etc. They also have the monkeynastic and other classes that is extra.

So our LB will still be home till he is 3 in Jan and then go there and probably go to the primary school when he is bigger.

Anyone know of some good playgroup or simple creches for a 2 year old? Missy turns 2 in Sept and I would like to send her then.

I've been told not to send only twice or 3 times a week, as it confuses her, so I'd consider half days - but then they say its better to send them to incl lunch there and a nap - which means its just about full day!

I am a SAHM for now, so there's not mega bucks for a school. Anyone know of a good, reasonable, affordable school in Moreleta or Pta East?

Preferably English, but a friend runs a afrikaans playgroup in Elardus Park so if nothing else, I'll send her there until Jan next year.

What do you al think about 2 or 3 days vs full week?
Halfday vs full day (4ish)?
Playgroup vs creche vs nursey school for 2 year old?

thx

As a teacher having worked in daycares and playgroups, mommy and a nanny at home with 3 under 3yrs old...

For a 2-yr old, 2 or 3 days a week should be fine, so long as they are consecutive days. In other words Mon, Tues, Wed or Wed, Thurs, Fri, or Tues, Wed Thurs etc. Sometimes it is easier to send them for the full week for the first 2 weeks or so, so that they can settle in and then go back to half week. 3 days is easier than 2. Some people will tell you that your child will miss out on activities etc if they only go part-time, but really, she's 2, she's not going to miss much and I doubt she will realise it and if you wanted you could follow the theme through at home. I've worked in daycares with part-time toddlers and they've always been fine.

Half day for sure! There is no reason to stay for lunch, she can eat at home with you, talk about her exciting day at school and then have her nap / quiet time. If you fetch her after lunch then she'll nap later and besides, unless you are providing lunch, many daycares don't provide the most nutritious meals.

Playgroup or daycare - playgroup is preferable because little ones are still just playing and don't really need the very formal structure of pre-school (usually from 3-6yrs) but if it is a baby / toddler class run as playgroup classes(ie no formal learning) attached to a pre-school and your child will be attending the preschool at a later stage then that is a good option because she will settle in and make friends.

Therefore R 1400 for a full day is very reasonable indeed!
