Pity about that Huggles... ours still works amazingly well and we take it with us to every check up to see if its still calibrated. It is also one of those with a colour indicator... Perhaps the batteries are a bit run down?

I bought a fancy one that could be used in the ear or on the forehead - it worked for about 3 weeks and then started giving very false readings. I returned it and bought another one that is forehead only. It worked really well (even has a colour light indicating fine, slightly raised, or bad) for about 6 months and now it says our temps are about 34C so also obviously very wrong.

Now i've bought the cheap under the arm digital one and that's the one i trust.

I also checked a bunch of other forehead ones in Baby City and not a single one gave me a believable reading.

While my little one was in hospital at 6weeks of age we got a digital forehead one that our paed recommended... For little ones these were the easiest. The best thing to do then is calibrate it with your paed's or clinic's to know how far it deviates from their reading...

It is a Braun that I got.

I don't even know what others are on the market now that you mention it...

Hi Marley,

I second what Widget said. Also got one for my baby shower and it has saved us from ER trips in the middle of the night numerous times.

You get a very large ear thermometer from Clicks (not sure what the brand is) and it comes with little disposable covers for the piece that goes into the ear. We dont have that one and it looks a little bulky to me.

We got one from Dischem, it is actually a Dischem branded product, much smaller than the one at Clicks (its about 10 cm in length and 2 cm in diameter) it was not too expensive (I bought one for a friend recently and it was approx R200). It doesnt have disposable covers for the earpiece, but since we only use it for our baby, we dont need those, I just wipe it with surgical alcohol after each use.

I can HIGHLY recommend the Dischem one.
