Teez- I am the same with my kids and my db is the opposite. I always say that between us we have the perfect balance.

Afterall kids will be kids and it is natural to want to protect and prevent them getting hurt but is always good to have a good balance.

Mommy to Ryan almost 3years old and Ben almost 5 months old

Just chill out , that's basically all you can do.

Liebe is 10 weeks old and for the first 7 weeks I protected her agains anything and everything.Even had a post about germs but you know what I realized I cant protect her from anything.

Soon she will go to creche (I will have no control)
Soon she will crawl on the floor (I will have no control)
Eventually she will want to play in mud , climb on the dog , and if I have to think back to my childhood those where the things I remember today , being able to play , crying cause my mother could not get my feet clean and I didn't want to bath anymore and lots more and then I realize I want Liebe to have that as well.

So i'm becoming more relaxed every day , and I tell myself all children get sick , all children fall , germs are everywhere and if i tried to control all those things I would go insane.

Wanting to protect your child, I think, is something every mom tends to want to do for their children.

That said, being a real wetwipe mom (germophobe) - I am yet to meet someone for who this was beneficial. Not only do these kids find it harder to fight off simple colds, but it can leads to behaviour problems (being unable to do anything without hands being wiped constantly while playing outside for example) and/or feeding problems (being unable to touch food or scared of different types of food and not wanting food to touch etc)

Trust me, I've met moms whose children have these problems and they go "I don't know what caused this" as they use 10 wetwipes to clean hands and face after a birthday party.

Also being OCD about cleaning your house and keeping it germ free really just takes away time you could have spent playing with your child. And I'm still unsure as to whether the exposure to chemicals isn't worse than the germs...

For Julz - think they are family!
