file Trying Moomie again...

Hi Marijke

I have no qualms about discussing my thoughts on homeschooling, I will however not get into arguments with anyone about it... So, if anyone joins this conversation and gets all up in my face, we can chat over FB :)

Personally my husband and I decided that homeschooling is best for our family for the following reasons:
a) I am a stay at home mom and I believe its my duty and calling to raise my own children... That said, I don't mean its my duty to homeschool them, but to give them the best basis for education, at home.
b) Being Christian, there are certain key things our children need to be taught, and since the bulk of schools these days do not teach any bible ed, and do teach evolution as truth, we have a strong need to guide our kids in the truth.
c) Cost - homeschooling is not cheap, but it is way cheaper than private school as a government school is definitely not an option.
d) Convenience - Being able to take a family holiday in the middle of term, or to go out with kids during the day. Its also great cos you can teach anywhere, whether you're driving somewhere or in a park, or in your kitchen.
e) Children need individual attention.... That they will never get in any school unfortunately.

I can list a million reasons why its right for us... I have quite a number of friends who homeschool successfully, and some that were homeschooled. So I have seen both the results. My sister in law is like supermom, not only does she homeschool but she makes it super interesting and fun. I hope I can accomplish that myself one day...

Another reason, just as an aside, is because we believe that God is in control of everything in our lives, so we trust him with everything from our finances to how many kids we have. So homeschooling a biggish-family (Lord willing) is way easier and cheaper than sending them to different schools.

Let me know what you think! check out the homeschool material we are going to use... google Sonlight, its a Christian based program, but they use normal books for the first few years.

ClayJG, I'm possibly going to fall asleep now because browsing from my phone is taking forever, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on homeschooling. If you prefer not to discuss it here you know where to find me on fb if you want.

Thanks!

I tried moomie last year and didnt have a great experience... but thought I'd give it a go now...

My little boy is 8 months old :) I'm a SAHM, and I run my own freelance make up business... I'm also involved in teaching moms about babywearing and the benefits thereof, throught the Babywearing Association of SA www.ba-sa.org.

I do product reviews and other random written things over at www.clayjarpeople.co.za

I'm real, I'm a crunchy-boho-hippy mama, who loves Jesus, babywearing, breastfeeding, being barefoot, reading and chilling with my boys.
