How awesome! Congrats on your baby boy.

The best thing you can do for the sleep is try to get him into a routine. The routine provides stability and that makes them feel really secure as they know what to expect everyday. I think your instincts on just showering him with love are spot on. It will help the two of you to bond. So try not to worry too much now about the sleep. My son didn't sleep through until he was 5!

My son also really struggled to chew. Try making his food for him and pureeing it but before it's completely pureed, take some out. Then puree the rest and add the lumpy bits back. Every few days, you can increase the amount of lumpy bits until he's happy with just mashed food. But Jana's right, he'll probably be too happy to eat interesting things like biltong and fruit. (or flings) ;) Otees are great too. You could also try some yoghurt with pieces of fruit in.

Thanks Jana, I'll definitely try the foods, love the peach idea.

He was at a place of safety but they had to conform to guidelines set by the state and therefore was fed only pureed food, this is why he has issues with pieces. He loves pureed banana so I'll try him with bigger pieces of that.
He does however absolutely love flings, shoves them into his mouth :)

Hi Leenie

Oh wow, how wonderful! That is amazing and I can imagine you are having an adventurous ride. I am sure there are other moms here who will be able to help you with milestones, since their babies are also that age.

You seem to be doing great and love is def. the number one.

My own advice for chewing would be to just let him be. Give him stuff to try himself without putting it in his mouth. Like stuff he can hold and get the feel of and he will eventually start chewing and eating. It's take a while. What is he currently eating/drinking?

Foods my children started chewing on, included:
Banana
Biltong (you get "baby chews" at some shops)
Peaches (peeled but whole, my babies held the whole round peach)
Oranges (it's very juicy)
Chicken pieces

Other ladies, maybe?

Regarding your PP, you go to your own profile and just upload. Otherwise, send me an email at jana@moomie.co.za and I'll help.

Hi all

I'm very new here, still trying to load a profile photo which for some reason doesnt seem to work, maybe because I'm tired running around after my 11 month old, maybe because it really is that difficult.

Anyway my story is a little different, I'm a first time mom to an 11 month old boy I adopted about two weeks ago, it's been an emotional roller-coaster ride, very soon after we were told about him, we were on a plane to fetch him (less than a week actually). I love to research everything with a fine tooth comb but this, there hasnt been time so I've chosen to shower him with loads of kisses and hugs and now I need to know things, this is why I've chosen to join an online parenting group.

I am trusting my instincts which seems to be working but sleeping is an issue, I'm trying to get him onto solid foods which is also difficult, otherwise he is the happiest, loveliest, most adorable little boy I have ever met and my husband and I have just fallen so deeply in love with his adorableness.

I would like to know about milestones, he's meeting them very well, he is getting quite steady on his feet, ect... but what other important milestones should I be teaching him, also how do I get him to chew, he's not impressed when I put something into his mouth he has to chew?
