file Blissful Birth - HypnoBirthing

I moved from the UK to Cape Town with my husband, Lee, (who is from here), 7 years ago with a view to settle and start a family.

We now are a family of 4 with two gorgeous boys, Felix (5) and Riley (3).

We became pregnant with Felix in 2012 and I had no idea of where to go or who to see, I was feeling totally over whelmed and extremely home sick!

As we set out on our journey we quickly decided that we would prefer to use a private midwife who would be with us from start to finish.  We felt a rapport with our care provider was an absolute must so I made phone calls to a list of midwives in the Southern Suburbs.

We instantly knew that Angela Wakeford from Birth Options suited us and we never looked back……twice!

After meeting Angela she introduced me the thought of a Home Birth and birthing using the HypnoBirthing techniques.

I researched it all and knew that Lee and I had the strength, love and ‘team work’ high 5’s to go for it and take control of the birth of our boys, experiencing peaceful, pain free births in the comfort of our own home.

Felix (6 hours labour) and Riley (1.5 hours labour) were both born peacefully and pain-free in water in our bedroom with only Me, Lee, Angela and Angela’s assistant present.  I had full faith in the tools that HypnoBirthing gave me, the rapport we had built with Angela and Lee’s ability as my husband and daddy to prefer as least amount of people around as possible.

Lee and I with both the boys, rode the labour literally on our own until it was absolutely necessary for Angela to be present.

We laughed, watched DVD’s and munched food all amongst Lee’s timing of surges (contractions) and me slipping in and out of ‘the zone’.  I even helped Lee prepare the birthing pool, the hose pipe from the shower and the plastic sheeting whilst moving through my surges!

I was totally empowered the hours following the births, I felt I could take on the world!

I just couldn’tunderstand why more women didn’t want to feel that way but then it dawned on me.  The C-section rate is 80% in South Africa and mothers are not given the choices, the understanding or knowledge that they deserve and they do not have the confidence to ‘own’ their birthing experiences.

Lee and I still reminisce, giggle and feel immensely proud of ourselves when we speak about our journey and how special and bonding it was for us and our boys.

It was obvious that I was passionate about the possibility that other like-minded parents could feel the way we do, so much so that I decided to become a HypnoBirthing Childbirth Educator and start Blissful Birth.

I feel immensely privileged that mothers and their birth companions allow me to be part of the most amazing, bonding, life changing journey that they will endeavour and I love with a passion what HypnoBirthing can offer them if they let it into their lives, their pregnancies, through to their births and beyond.
