Wait wait wait...

Its amazing what difference one omitted word can make. I meant you will NOT be able to claim the additional 2 months.

UIF covers up to 4 months maternity leave. So if you're getting 4 months full pay from your employer you wont be able to claim. Only if you're getting a portion of your salary or you're getting full pay for less than 4 months then only can you claim from UIF but the number of months paid/claimed when combined with your employer cannot exceed 4 months.

Sorry for the confusion. :(

Hi IreneL

Depending on your current salary UIF will be capped at just over R5600 pm. The R5600 is if you earn more than the ceiling salary of R14872pm - then they (Dept of Labour) will pay you 38% of R14872. If you earn less than that then is a higher percentage (up to 60%) of your salary but it still wont go over the R5600pm.

Also bear in mind that if your employer pays you for 4 months and you want to take an additional 2 months UIF will cover those additional 2 months. They pay for a maximum of 4 months when combined with your employer so if your employer pays you for 2 months, they'll only pay for an additional 2 and if your employer pays you for 3 months they'll only pay for 1.

Hope this helps.

hi Irene,

Hoop dit gee jou so bietjie agtergrond.

Can anyone perhaps give me some info on uif for maternity leave? What is the maximimum amount paid out?

Im considering taking an additional two months maternity leave, which will be unpaid. I just want to have an idea of the amount I can bargain on so that I can make an informed decision.

Thanks!
