I had a similar experience when my little girl, (okay not so little now she's 11), was a toddler.
She would run off the minute she thought you weren't looking, and would refuse to sit in a pram. 'I has legs, I walkies' she would tell me.
Eventually I had to buy one of those toddler harnesses. I was always so stressed when I went shopping, I kept imagining her running off and being hit by a car!
An older mother, her 2 kids then teenagers by the look of them, came up to me and tried telling how unfair it is to my LG to have her on a leash! And that if I couldn't be responsible enough to look after her properly I shouldn't have had kids at all....
Really! I just gaped at her with my mouth hanging open like a fish! I had no idea what to say.
It bothered me a little bit, still being very young then. But eventually I decided I'd rather know my LG is safe and can't run under a car, than worry about other people's opinions of a toddler harnass! :cheer:

Hi Shantal,

I think a whole lot of mommies on here can relate to that. Unfortunately there is people out there who think they can just utter what they want to.

I adopted a smile and wave attitute or an Ill ignore you attitiute.

When my second child was born, we went shopping I had him in a baby sense sling, and oldest in the pram, this random old lady came up to me and told me how irresponsible I am to have this poor child in a sling, he can fall out or suffocate.... I smiled at her and walked away, ignoring the statement, but what I rather wanted to do is to tell her where to find her place and to get on with her own life.

being new mommies is tough, being first time mommies is tougher, and most people who had kids that are older now, or never had kids will be the harshest on us.

just dont let it get to you. the best answer is sometimes just to turn your back and not to allow the other person the joy of upsetting you!

(((HUG)))

Thanks StellaK you have no idea how good it feels to know someone understands. Well he got a glass of water in his face after he told me those harsh words.

Toddlers are a handful and as parents it's a task to control them but i think that if you dislike kids then don't seat yourself around them or visit restaurants that are the family kind.

o no :swear:
big hug to you.

how rude is that, people have no idea what it entails to have a todler.

all i can say is, do not take it personally as people are so easy to judge, espesially those that have no experience with todlers

Hi parents, on Saturday I was told by a random person in a restaurant that I am a worthless mother cause my child screamed a few times. An argument broke out which led to me not being able to hold my temper. I wasn't prepared to let someone tell me " you are a bad mother and it hope you never have anymore kids"
Has anyone experienced such behavior from random people? That clearly don't have toddlers to know the behavior.
