Sjoe where to start...

Last Monday night I slept horribly. My hips were paining and my back. Then when I woke up I was fine. Tuesday afternoon I felt the same again so I went to lie down and when I woke up it still felt the same. Then at about after 5pm while I was waiting for hubby to come home, I started with period like pains. I still asked my sister what contractions felt like for her. And she said I should rather pop into the labor ward to rather be safe. So when hubby got home, we went to the labor ward. They put the ctg machine on me and there were mild contractions. My urine also had some blood in it due to the stitch. So my gynae admitted me and put me on a drip, gave me some antibiotics and more steroids just in case baby decided to come. The hospital was full and maternity ward had no space so I had to sleep in the labor ward. LOL man it sounded like a horse racing track and then an xrated movie the way some ladies were carrying on.
So on wednesday I felt fine and the gynae discharged me. Thursday I was ok until about 6pm, the pains started again. So i started timing them. They were 20min apart until 11pm. then it became 10min apart. Went to bed, tried to sleep but the pains kept me up. when I woke up on friday morning at 4am the pains were 5min apart. I tried to rather take the punch but just before 8am I phoned my gynae to check with him. he said he wasnt on wknd duty and that another gynae would treat me and that I should go to hospital. Oh man I was dissapointed. It was another gynae who happened to be my first gynae who neva treated me well.
Anyway my hubby came home and at about 9 we went to the hospital. I felt so bad because everyone was preparing for my babyshower which took place on Saturday. got to hospital, they put the ctg machine on me again. It showed NO contractions, just a flat line. Yet my pains were 5min apart. Gynae couldnt understand and apparently they dont do internals at 33 weeks coz of fear of irritating the cervix. So the gynae did blood tests. turns out my white blood cell count was a little high which could indicate infection. So more antibiotics, this time via the drip. And again on a drip to stop contractions. Yet the pains were still coming every 5min. By now I was thinking people most probably thought I was acting lol. Gynae came back about 3 hrs later, still had pain. So they gave me a pain injection to see if that would help, which I later found out was a pethidine injection. I was not impressed. Yet it didnt help, still had pains. When he came back he then said that even though the ctg isnt picking up contractions, the pain I am experiencing could still be contractions. My family came and visited and my sister and her dh, they brought some of my babyshower gifts since they knew I wouldnt make it to the shower the next day. That was real special. We also decided that if I didnt make it to the shower that my hubby would attend on my behalf.
I got moved to a private room in the maternity ward. I tried to sleep. Then Friday late afternoon I had my show. Yet the gynae said this was normal for a stitch. I didnt agree and the midwife that saw the show also knew it wasnt a good sign. Anyway I had to put a pad on, the discharge was increasing and more blood in it. Kept showing the nurse too. I hardly slept that night. They gave me 3 types of pain pills yet nothing helped. It made me drowsy but the pain kept me up. It felt like my cervix was ripping. Early saturday morning, the pain got real bad. I cried through some of them. Finally the gynae came to check and I pleaded that the pain is worse and that I was bleeding. Then he started jumping around and wanted to do an internal. FINALLY. Man that was painful too. You could see the shock on his face, he said my membranes were bulging and that this stitch was gonna rip if we didnt act quick. He left quick and came back. There was no space in the NICU for my baby and they couldnt let me deliver at the hospital. So they phoned another private hospital 30min away. Gynae came back and said they are gonna have to transfer me by ambulance. the paramedics came up with stretcher. Waited for medical aid to authorize. Got put on the stretcher, vitals checked etc. And there I went, sirens, lights and all. Hubby arrived just before I left luckily. Before leaving the gynae explained that he thought a csec would be safer but that because I am being transferred I will have to go with what the new team says. Man I was so sad that my own gynae couldnt do the birth.
Arrived at the other hospital at 10am on Saturday. Got taken to the labor ward immediately. Got the ctg hooked up again. New gynae came in. removed my stitch and broke my waters. Wow what a feeling. So he said that I should deliver after about 4 hours. Immediately after removing the stitch I was 7cm dilated. WoW. So there I thought it would be ok now and it would go slow. NOPE. The contractions were coming stronger. And only after the stitch was removed did the ctg start picking up my contractions. Amazing hey. THey were still 5min apart. Hubby was busy completing my admission. I asked my dad to please get my hubby. My sister also came in and thats when the contractions got really bad. Oh man the urge to push started coming and I knew I couldnt but the pain was bad. My high pain threshold didnt help lol. So I breathed through the contractions best I could. Then it got super bad, the midwife did internal and she said I was fully dilated. She shouted that the gynae must come back. She said i must please try hang on. Hubby arrived. luckily coz gynae also arrived. And checked. I started pushing, just couldnt help it anymore. 3 pushes and Michael Thomas Myburgh was born. 10:27am he was born. He was born flat (not breathing), I think because the labor went way too quick and he was prem.
Paed wasnt there yet, so gynae and midwife resuccitated him. he cried eventually but softly. They brought him for a quick peek before running with him to NICU. I delivered the placenta. It wasnt completely loose so got the injection and it helped. Then I got cleaned up and walked (yes on my own) to my own room. Got settled in. Lay on the bed. felt tired but couldnt sleep yet. Waited for the paed.
She came about an hour later. Said Michael was fine, on a little bit of oxygen. Weighing 2.09kg. They did tests to check for brain damage etc.
Sunday came and he was doing well. No milk for the whole of saturday. He didnt have any brain damage.
Monday his oxygen was decreased. he started drinking on Sunday. 5ml and then Monday increased to 10ml. Strong little boy.
I was discharged on Sunday morning at 6.30am. So we been visiting him since then. And really cant wait to bring him home. He should be home by the weekend. Paed said once he is off the oxygen and eating well then he will be home soon.

He is such a miracle for us. From conceiving him, during the pregnancy and up until now, a real miracle. We thank God everyday for him. B)

Due Date: 19 Sep 2011
Birth Date: 27 Sep 2011 (8 days past due date)
Time: 18:43
Little Girl – Anrika Rose Eddie
Weight: 4.07 kg
Length: 53 cm
Head: 36 cm

Went to my midwife on the 19th of Sep and all was still fine, she said we are just waiting. Asked her about reflex and she said yes I can go that is no problem. Went for reflex twice and it was nice and I was sure it will help. Nothing happened.
Went to midwife on 26th of Sep and she suggested a sweep & stretch and that I book a homeopathic induction for the 28th of Sep. She did the sweep & stretch and she confirmed I was 2 cm dilated. And I booked the induction with the gynie.
From that night the 26th I got contractions but they were irregular.
Woke on the 27th with still contractions, but they became regular and I phone my husband at about 11h00 saying that things are happening, but he must not worry it will not happen soon he can still leave work at 16h00. Contractions got closer together and stronger. I made arrangements for my little boy to go to his aunt and uncle, and made sure that all was okay with him.
They picked William up at about 3 o’clock and I phoned my husband at about 15:45 and told him that he must come now. He was home at about 16:45, and we left as soon as he finished packing the car. Left in the traffic to Genesis, we got there at 17:35, contractions was very close together, about 2 – 3 min apart.
Went straight to room, the bath was filled with water and I was more than ready for my little girl to come now.
Went to the bathroom and midwife check me right there and said I was 8cm, wow I was surprised.
She also broke my water by accident.
Got into the bath and the contractions was getting stronger and stronger. She check me again and said that there is still a little piece of cervix and that I must not push, but the urge was there and I wanted to push, I got a breather from the contractions and then the urge was there to get this little girl out. The pushing is the hardest it is sore. Pushed a good 15 – 20 min and she was born.
She was born at 18:43, 1 hour and 10 min after I arrives at the clinic.
She was a little blue and they had to suction her.
I was checked over and had to get stitches, internally in the birth canal (Tore the same with my son, the perineum was still intact). That is the worst part for me, dealing with the stitches. They burn and are not nice.
The stay at Genesis was great, the second night, my little boy stayed with us and they had no problem with that, it was really great.
But we are doing great and she is feeding like a champ.
