I've been doing most of my research from doodlebums and will eventually buy from there once I decide what to buy , so they have been a source of hours of reading, wondering, plotting and planning.

Blou - I prefer snaps because the velcro sticks to everything in the wash and I'm just one of those people who get super annoyed having to detangle everything. I know you can stick them together before washing but that doesn't always happen. Just my preference.

I read up on everything about cloth nappies, chose 3 I thought would work for us, ordered one of each, tried them out and made my decision.

Blou- I am not familiar with fancy pants but I can share what I think about snaps vs velcro. In the beginning I thought Velcro was easier as you just put it where you want it, but as my little girl got bigger she figured out how to undo the velcro and would just pull her nappies off. I had to cover her pretty nappies with panties to stop this. But when I use the snap ones she can't undo those and in summer loved running around in just her nappy, with no dodgy or icky incendences!! Hope that helps one of your points!

Amanda - I have been meaning to come post here for ages.....you are a genius!! I did a bicarb wash and a hot wash. Just hot tap, not boiling. Problem solved!! I am in love with my nappies again. Yippee. Big big thanks

Hi all...58 pages clearly indicates that this is a hot topic and understandably so...it seems more difficult to me to choose a cloth nappy than it was choosing our LGs name!
So many brands and so many choices!
Anyone on the forum use Fancypants nappies? I saw the last few posts were about the soap nuts (best little berries ever!!! ) and I figured I could just as well ask since it seems this is the best place for it.
We bought the Fancypants sample nappy and I'm mostly happy with it, except for a few hiccups I found (and this is where all you clever experienced mommies can set my mind at ease with your wise answers):
1. Snaps fastening vs. Velcro - seems that with the snaps, on the one setting around her waist it is too loose, and then one snap smaller, it is too tight...am I just being a moron, or do other moms also find this and does using a velcro fastener negate this problem properly?
2. The nappy is a waterproof outer with a pocket insert (similar to the Bumbeetles and Cherub Tree nappies as far as the internet has let me investigate). When she does a wee, the nappy gets wet up to the front and back edges of the insert - hope that makes sense - and I'm afraid this will irritate her skin between changes. Is it normal for this to happen and what can I do to prevent nappy rash since bum creams are not advised unless you're using a liner.
3. Anyone possibly used the Fancypants and another brand that can compare the two for me? I know its all about bum size and personal preference to decide on a nappy, but some advise can never go amiss.
4. Does anyone know if there is a shop in CPT that stocks cloth nappies, so you can go and look, feel, inspect, size and generally look gobsmacked at the different nappies?

OK, lets see where that gets me, then I'll think of some more pesky questions - there seems to be no shortage of them.

I love the soapnuts. The nappies are clean when I take them out, but do still have some staining from the ebf poo. I don't think any washing powder will completely eliminate those stains! They do come out easily by hanging the nappies outside in the sun to dry. It is a natural form of bleaching.
