My clinic said offer 20mls after each solid meal from the time I started solids. They don't take much in the beginning but gets them used to the idea of glasses or sippy cups or whatever. I started rooibos at 7m I think. Stay away from juice as it just stuffs up their teeth. James only really started drinking more than 5ml now on Dec when it got really hot.

Hi there, I give Emma a few sips of cooled boiled water in a glass after each meal. She takes about three to four big sips. My clinic sister advised me to give it to her out of a glass and it works well. She has not really taken to a sippy cup.

Hi Nelly,

according to my paed breastfed babies don't need water/ additional fluids until they are six months old. If you feel, however, your LO gets constipated in this heat (CPT) or shows signs of dehydration, you can give him 30 ml a day from a cup or spoon.

Hey Nelly

I guess that would depend on your child but we gave Joshua cooled boiled water from day 4 literally. Mommy milk supply was too slow for the hungry monkey and I didn't want to introduec any formula. So water it was. Boy oh boy when my milk supply came in full blast on day 5, I think Joshua couldn't cope :woohoo:

I don't see anything wrong with giving water as this also keeps them hydrated. You could also give rooibos tea, but no sugar/milk. Some kids prefer this to water.
