I tried everything in the book with my son, who was chronically constipated for 8 months. Only thing that worked was more water and Pegicol. You need a prescription for Pegicol and the paed said it is safe to use for long periods. He went off it and never had a problem again. If I see he struggles a bit more than usual, I increase his water intake.

You should ask your paed about giving her some Lacson daily. Dont understand why she is constipated when she is breast fed. My lg had "gastro" when she was 8 months old and ended up in hospital, mean time back at the ranch :P she had a obstruction!! The only way they could verify this was with a xray.

Good luck

Forgot to mention that if your lo is constipated you shouldn't give her a lot of milk or dairy.

There is obviously something causing the constipation. It can be that she is not getting enough water or it might be the cereal that she is eating........... Constipation is a common thing amongst girls.

There are a lot of different things you could try to get immediate relieve & most things were mentioned already. Prune juice, prune purity, glycerine suppository, 5ml extra virgin olive oil over her food or even in her juice. You can also try to make a suppository out of those geen sunlight bars(works wonders) or take a little vaseline & put it on the tip of an earbud & then gentle stick it in & just make small circular motions until the poo comes out - usually comes out fast & it works like a charm).

What did her pediatrician say might be the problem last time she went?

Our lo also had the same problems - I would suggest a glysirin supository to help get out what is stuck first - or she might end up tearing a bit when she does eventually poop. Then what the otherladies have suggested to keep her "flowing" is perfect.

Hi,
Its not easy when we see them suffering.

Check that the cerelac doesn't contain rice. Mabe also cut out the cerelac all together ( just for a few days )as the cereals 'bulk' up everything making it much more difficuly to pass a stool.

If your lo drinks water, offer it to her or a little freshly squeezed orange juice, this always gets my 2 moving! Grapes cut in tiny pieces for her. Also a little drizzle of olive oil into her veggies before mixing could also help.

If all else fails , you could always give her a glycerine suppo. I've never given these to my lo and I know its something you should not do on a regular basis. But I suppose for fast relief this could help.

The bicycle exercises that giggles mentioned also help.

Hope she feels better soon.

I have 2 little girls and we living in Hong Kong.

I'm not sure if this will help.

My LG was constipated for 3 days and we tried the prune juice and it didn't help.

What worked was the woolies bran muffin, I broke it and gave her probably about 4 or 5 bites tiny tiny bites.. I broke it and fed her with my hand, I smashed up the raisins as well. She poo'd that same afternoon.

I also did the bicycle excercise through the day with her.

Hope it helps.

PS: my LG is 8mnths
