Hi there

I also posted a topic on the toddlers section then beginning of Jan where my 2 year old son was doing the same thing, he was refusing to eat all types of "cooked" food, the only thing he was prepared to eat was cheese sarmies, apples and banana's. This carried on until i would say about a week ago where he finally ate a bowel of spagetti bolognaise, now that and rice and veg, omlette is all his prepared to eat now, lol, so i think they all go through some sort of phase, but very stressful i know.

good luck hope it passes soon.

ReneP, I think it might be teething. Those nappies never lie!
And when the hand is constantly in the mouth, there is your garantee.

I have found that a cold carrot (give supervised) or frozen peas helps a bit. I also make ice-lollies made from pulped fruit.
Blend half a pineapple and add about half a cup of coconut milk. It's yummy!

Good luck, hope it will pass soon!

Thank you Gloeiwurpie :)
I should know all of this because I went through worse with my LG, now 5 years old.... and I'm the one always telling my DH that if LB was hungry he will eat something... it's human instinct to want food if you're hungry... so I guess I'll just have to follow my own advise and stop worrying about it. :)

I know, it's very frustrating, because suddenly he doesn't want to eat anything!!! I'm getting just a little worried.
I have to say, I think the heat is also playing a big part in it, other than that I'm sure it's just a phase, even so, I can't help to stress about it.
His one finger is also constantly in his mouth, I have a suspision that he might be teething?

I have read that it is very normal and it is to be expected around 18 months for toddlers to start refusing to eat certain foods and also go on "food strikes". I have found that teething has a definite impact on their eating patterns.

It is ok to give your toddler the same meal 3 times a day, if he wants it. He won't have macaroni and cheese for the rest of his life!

Give a good multivitamin if you are concerned.

If you are still worried, check your toddlers weight with a pead or clinic sister.

I know it is troubling if it seems as if your child isn't eating, but it seems they can thrive on surprisingly little food.

Hope this helps!

Rene, I actually have the same problem at the moment. My almost 19-month old just shakes her head "no" and then refuses to eat. I have no idea what to do. I am just glad she eats when her nanny is at home.

I feed her yogurt when she is in the bath. Very frustrating, because she used to be SUCH a good eater. And I don't think it's teeth either.

Hi There
I have a LB that 20months old. I have really been struggling with his eating habits. Since starting solids he has always been a very good eater, but about 2 months ago, just before the December holidays his eating habits changed dramatically.
I struggle to get him to eat lunch and at supper time its a struggle as well. I revert to giving him cereal like weetbix or yoghurt so that he gets something in, but for the last month he doesn't even want to eat that??
Since créche started in January he has improved a little with lunchtime, but most days he doesn't want to eat. And when we get home he refuses his food as well. I even let him eat by himself, but he isn't interested. And all of a sudden he doesn't want to eat pastas anymore?? It's so weird.
He does drink tea/juice, only now and again, cow's milk and I give him Nido before bed time if he ate really bad during the day.
He isn't skinny at all, at 18 months he weighed over 14kg.
Does anybody please have some advise for me? Could he be teething, because I get the most horrendous nappies too, LOL.
:silly:
