question-circle 7-8month old and solids

I agree with the other mummies, milk is still much more important! My LO loved those yogurt rice cakes from woolies or even the plain ones, at this stage they are just getting used to the idea of solids.

Eish, I've been a little busy lately so I'm just gonna jump in at the end. I just just started giving food from 6 months and by 7-8 months it was around twice a day.
I did not puree his food, I just gave food that was naturally soft. cooked butternut, paw paw, watermelon, plums, and such.. even things like halved brussel sprouts.
I only started introducing yogurt and cottage cheese (double cream! good for their brains) from 10 months, just cos it still freaked me out a little, the whole food thing esp dairy..

I also did the baby led weaning way, not intentionally, it just seemed to be more natral to me. Missy now eats anything and all by herself - I can do something else while she eats.

I dont believe in forcing her to eat - she lets me know when she is hungry. Now that she is a little toddler, its so much easier - I never have to fight with her and hardly ever throw untouched food away.

She too didnt drink water or rooibos or juice or anything! The suddenly at about a year, she started drinking water and now she loves her rooibos - I never forced her to do anything and it all worked out!

She lets me know when she is hungry or when she is thirsty! Sometimes she goes off meat, eggs, veges or something, but a week later she is into that again! Today she stood at the cupboard and showed me what she wanted, sometimes she goes to the fridge and I know she is hungry/thirsty and somethimes she points to the fruit basket and then I know its snack time! It all comes naturally!

At 7-8 months I was more routine orientated and planned the days meals, but it gets so much easier now.

I never know what to give, my lg is 7 months old. I basically give cerelac in the morning, mash potato or butternut for lunch, and supper is either purity or the rest of the veg from lunch, she seems to be getting bored with this as well, and sometimes wants what we eat, but I'm not too sure about it. I've introduced juice and rooibos, but she's seems not to like neither one of the 2 very much, another thing is, she REFUSES to drink water, I do not know what else to do, she is on Nan 2 now and I worry that she may not be getting enough water.... any tips?

My LG is 8 months and she eats ANYTHING. For breakfast its cerelac, lunch is purity and supper she eats what we eat. During the day she snacks on fruit rusks cheese yoghurt, basically anything.
She also has 4 250ml bottels of formula a day give or take.

She was sick a few weeks ago and refused to eat, and only drank formula for about a week, and she never lost weight or became less active or even hungry.

You can get rice cakes and baby rusks at this stage, and fruit is great to snack on. I just put it in one of those mesh food holders and she chews away. Try watermelon / mango / apple / pear. It's messy but K loves it.

I think you can start yoghurt at 7 months. And you can start introducing protein soon as well.

here's a helpful link that I think Bronz gave me a while ago when I had loads of questions

One things for sure, you land up with so many options it becomes overwhelming. And my fridge / freezer just isnt big enough to stock that big a variety of foods for her, pureed or not. So as I run out I'll buy different things for her to try.

Re purees - when I make my own I dont puree it that its runny, I try give it with some texture. And also the cereal in the mornings otherwise I may as well be giving her milk.

First angel resting 25/06/2009 stayed with us a short 7 weeks but we still miss you.

At 7/8 months they are only really starting to get into the solid thing so I wouldnt worry too much about snacks - their milk feeds are still more important. On days when they are miserable and not eating I rather give breastmilk/formula over another meal - these are much more calorie dense.

I never gave purees ever, I just started on regular food (baby led weaning), and my baby has always managed just fine. James has had scrambled eggs, beetroot, salmon, peanutbutter, spagetti bolognese you name it. Hes 10 months now and I am doing 4 meals a day Breakfast, morning "snack" (normally fruit), lunch and dinner. I still bf on demand. I only introduced a snack at 9 months...
