Hi Ladies,

Thanks so much for the advice. I've had my little guy Riley on the Purity Rice Cereal for about a week now (at dinner time). So will give it another week and then move him onto cereal in the morning as well.

It is such an exciting time, watching him deal with the new taste and texture. He has been such a champ so far. LOVING it.

Am trying to find out if anyone has used www.babytastes.co.za. I'm going to try cook all his veggies, but if I'm not able to, Baby Tastes looks like a great option.

Thanks again for the advice.

When you start the cereal, start with just one or two spoons a meal for a couple days then increase it by a spoon so by the end of a couple weeks you're giving a full cereal meal but not all at once.
Once you're giving a full meal for a week in the morning, then you can start giving cereal at night too, starting in the same way and then in the same way you move onto your yellow veggies (replacing the dinner cereal with veg) and then adding variety and pasta etc into it, and adding fruit too.
At 7 months you can introduce dairy such as full cream plain yoghurt and full cream plain cottage cheese / cheese sauce etc.
Around 7 months you can also start introducing proteins.

The feeding sense book and the Anabel Karmel book are apparently great for introducing solids / getting a variety of foods into babies diet.

First angel resting 25/06/2009 stayed with us a short 7 weeks but we still miss you.

Ah I forgot a sentence, after they have been on the cereal as Mandz described, my pead suggested to implement the veggies as I described.

Hi:) I was given the exact same advice aqs Mandz, to elaborate was told to start with the yellow veggies when introducting them. The move to the green. After all have been tolerated to the mix veggies. You can start with fruit after the veggies. Was also told to keep him on rice cereal until he is 6 months, thereafter to introduce a variety. My son like Mandz's son loved the nestle cerealc. Hope that helps;) by the time they are 6 months you can introduce a lunch. Was also told not to let the solid consumption be more than the milk, as milk must remain the main source of nutrition. That's about all I can remember:)

My Paed suggested Cereal for 2 weeks once a day then two weeks twice a day. then you substitute one of the cereals for a veg, possibly butternut or sweet potato...And at around 8 months or so you will probably be on 3 times a day. just try read how baby is responding...there is no way thats set in stone.

Hi ladies,

I was just wondering how everybody else went about getting their LO's onto solids. My son is just over 4 months old and the Paed suggested getting him onto solids. He suggested I start with Rice Cereal and go from there. He just hasn't been able to wait 4 hours between bottles anymore, he has more than doubled his birth weight (was born at 3kg's and now weighs 6.9kg's), and is able to hold his head up solidly.

I was wondering where to after cereal, how long to keep him on cereal etc? Everywhere I look has different answers, and wanted to know if any of you would share how you went about it.

Thanks ladies.
