Feeding Twins, Bottle or Breast

o.k super peed off right now after i have twice written huge long replies to this but lets go for 3rd time lucky.........................

might be a little shorter than what i originally intended unfortunately...

I am a mom of 18 month old twin boys and a 3 year old son also.

If i could do it all over again i would say breast feed both, it's easier than having one on breast and one on bottle. I didn't have any choice after one twin was kept in NICU for 3 weeks and the other came straight home with me.

Baba1 was breast fed from birth baba2 never took the breast properly after being tube fed and then bottle fed in NICU he just didn't manage the breast at all. So when we eventually had both babies home i was breast feeding one and bottle feeding with EBM (Expressed Breat Milk) the other. It was hectic and eventually i put both babies on the bottle and just expressed because to do both was just too much.

my other tip would be to feed both babies at the same time, i once or twice tried to feed one after the other but because multiples are quite small they need feeding every 3 hours and back2back feeding just takes so long that by the time you have fed the second baby it's almost time to feed the 1st again so you get very little sleep.

I used a V shaped breast feeding cushion and laid them both down one on the breast and one on the other side with the bottle. Ideally it would've been both on the breast.

but just try to do whatever works for you. Try not to make a steadfast plan before they arrive because you just do not know how it will all turn out. I never imagined i would have one baby come home and one in NICU for 3 weeks and that just threw all my plans right out the window and i had to make it up as we went along.

If you do want to speak to laleche leguge make sure you actually speak to someone who has had and breast fed twins herself! There is a HUGE difference between breast feeding a normal full term singleton and feeding premature multiples! HUGE difference!

Anyone who has had a prem baby will be able to tell you it's enough of a battle to get one baby onto the breast after being tube and bottle fed in NICU.

I'll ask my one facebook friend if she would care to come and reply as I think she did breastfeed them for a while.

You can feed them both breast milk at the same time or in back to back feeds rather. Your boobs are smart and should produce enough milk for both babies. Otherwise there is nothing wrong with adding a bottle feed, doing top ups or just bottlefeeding them. Do whatever works for you and your family. If you are keen to breast feed I would recommend you contact your local la leche rep.

Can i breastfeed one baby and put other baby on the bottle? And switch the feedings the next day??

HELP? Have no idea what to do?
