Hi Ladies

My LG turned 2 in June. She doesn't drink bottle during the night and sleeps through. She drinks a bottle with milk before she goes to bed and in the morning. During the day she will drink tea and juice at the daymother from a sippy cup. My question is when is it more or less time to take her of a bottle completely and let her drink only from a cup?

Lagarbah, Oh, my. Do you mean they had to pull her teeth out?

My LG is going for her first dental visit tomorow and I am quite nervous she might have a cavity....

Kaylee was also getting a bottle in bed at night and she would wake up and drink on it all night long. It was left in her bed so she would get it herself but nonetheless she was waking up just for a few sips at a time.
So a few months back I replaced it with water (also in a standard bottle) and she sipped on it for all of 3 nights and then started sleeping through.
Now we give her a bottle before bed while doing her bedtime story, and she gets a bottle when she wakes up in the mornings, and during the day she gets tea and juice and water although the daymom still seems to be giving her milk at 5pm some days which is really frustrating cos then she doesnt want to eat supper. When she gets in the car she also demands milk but I bring along water in a pop up sports bottle or sippy cup with lid. If she's really thirsty she drinks, if not she will decline it.

First angel resting 25/06/2009 stayed with us a short 7 weeks but we still miss you.

I agree with Marijke, I am a bit of a softy with Paige, but cold turkey is the only thing that works. Paige is nearly 2

Paige got sick a few weeks ago and wanted milk again at night and I felt sorry for her and gave in, she then started waking at night and the only way to get rid of it was cold Turkey, I just explained she gets a bottle before bed and then one in the morning,

She woke up asking for it at night and I said its finished there will be more milk in the morning, she cried for 5 minutes and went back to sleep, 3-4 nights later, she started sleeping longer stretches and now she is sleeping well and doesn't ask for milk at night.

I think they get used to using milk, juice etc to settle themselves back to sleep and then need it every time they wake up through the night.

I keep a juice cup with a straw by Paige's bed so she can have a sip of juice if she wants, but no milk in a bottle.

I'm sorry to say, but the only way to get them to sleep through is to quit cold turkey with whatever you give at night.

And in all honesty, it could have been me asking this question at around 2 years of age. And had I gotten this reply I would have been like "yeah, skip that". I could count on one hand how many times since birth she had slept through.

B had milk, every night, at bed time, in her bed, would wake up 2 - 4 times a night and have more milk, in her bottle, nothing else would do, until she got sick and threw up and we had to remove milk for at least 24 hours to make sure it wasn't a tummy bug made worse by having dairy. Night 1 was okay because she understood, night 2 was a challenge, night 3 she slept through and has been (unless she's sick or nightmares) since

If someone had just slapped me earlier. We did leave a little bottle (those plastic oros bottles with a bit of water and once or twice she drank everything in it but because she was really thirsty, not for comfort because you can't really lie down and drink from it)

B never took to a sippy cup (she liked a straw cup more but only for a short period of time), we went straight to those oros bottles (of which I now have a cupboard full) and plastic cups. So skip the sippy cup/bottle stage and go for "you can only drink while sitting up"
