Hi ronel

I'm so pleased to hear that you came right.

That is what I meant regarding the bottles. Some babies prefer certain teats above others.
Just such a mission to figure out if it's the teat, the bottle, the flow of the teat etc......LOL!

Hi Ladies

Just a quick update. Got advice from the lady at Reggies to try pigeon teats as it fits on the NUK bottles. Bought a set of teats and LB is taking the bottle now without any issues!

Thanks for all the advice :)

@Yaz - No, I do not express milk at all. I am trying to put him on formula. I work in an open-plan area at work and can't really express milk there. My goal is to still breastfeed at night but I am struggling to get him to take the bottle and/or formula

Thanks very much ladies. I will go to Baby city tomorrow.

@momtoc - my LG had reflux and used the Novalac AR. My LB is on the standard Novalac. He will take a few sips and then it is as if he gets irritated and then spits the milk out and refuses to drink anymore.

Ronel, do I understand you correctly? Your LO takes formula from a bottle but no EBM? If that's the case, maybe have someone else give him the bottle with expressed milk. He smells your milk when you give it to him and most probably thinks: why on earth doesn't she give me the real stuff?! :)

My LG, now 2, never took a bottle (regardless if it was formula or EBM) from anyone - not me, not DH, not grandma, not the nanny... - until I stopped breastfeeding altogether :( It was very sad but I eventually had to take that step as a last resort cause she starved herself for more than three weeks at daycare and never drank even one drop throughout the whole day!

But I'm sure your baby will be fine if he already takes formula from a bottle! Good luck!

Oh yes, and I also spent hundreds of Rands on different bottle brands and teats! Totally useless! Rather stick to one brand and they'll get used to it! If you already have the NUK, maybe try the rubber teat, many babies prefer that one to the latex!

@Ronel... Baby City stocks the Playtex VentAire bottles, teats etc everything you'll need. You can buy individual bottles for about R60 or a set of 3 for about R150- the bottles come with the fast flow teats so buy yourself a set of the slow flow teats (about R50 for 4) to start with and then move across to the fast flow when babs is a bit older. they are also a curved neck bottle which makes them comfortable to hold for you and for babs when they're a bit older... I've attached a pic of Rebecca holding one her ventaire bottles

ronel,

Here is the website :

www.playtexbaby.com/Bottles/VentAire.aspx

That is what I hated about the Avent & Dr Brown bottles with my lg. It came out way too quickly. She also suffered from reflux & was put on Novalac when she was about 3 months old. Nan just gave her bad acid.

She was on Novalac until she was 18 months old & she loved that milk. It also cleared her acid & eased the reflux in a few days. It is just very expensive cause you don't get it in big tins but I'm a huge Novalac fan.............

It is difficult to tell if it's the milk or just the bottle. Does your lo spit the milk out?
