Good luck to you Shrew! It's hard work, but if you are committed to doing it, it will be easier to do and set yourself shortterm goals, they're easier to reach and you won't feel like you have this long and winding road of pumping ahead of you.

BTW I have a manual pump, I'm sure I could've done even better with an electric pump, but unfortunately being a first time mom and not knowing anyone personally who pumped out milk at work, I opted for the manual pump, mainly because of the price. In the end, I did waste a lot of money by accidentally destroying my first pump  I totally forgot to put water in the sterilizer and ja, let's just say, not much remained of the pump's handle....I ended up buying yet another manual pump, which I love, but the prices of the two manual pumps combined could've bought me an electric pump :headbang:

Anyhoo, good luck again!

Thanks for the advice.

I'm defnitely going to try full cream milk first, and as you said, much cheaper.

Pumping is hard work hey! But I was very adamant about breastfeeding her for as long as I could, that I just pushed through. I'm very proud of myself  especially after the rocky start that we had.

Ordinary full cream milk is best if given from 1 year, and much cheaper. Hats off to you for carrying on with the pumping for so long! I could only manage a month...

Thanks for replying.

I was just so worried that she's not getting enough milk, because she loves her boobie milk :) She does eat her solids well, three meals and a snack or two, depending on her mood.

I think I'll go with the full cream milk first before giving her Nido, hopefully she'll take to it easily, she eats full cream yoghurt quite well.

Hi,

I breastfed my daughter until 13 months and then put her onto Nido. I wouldn't stress about top up feeds, if your daughter is eating solids well. by 11- 12 months, my daughter was only breastfeeding morning and night with no milk in the day ( she dropped the feeds on her own), just her solids and then when I stopped breastfeeding at 13 months, she got Nido in a bottle in the morning and evening.

My Pead said that Nido or full cream milk ( we now use the woolies full cream organic milk) is fine from 12 months, if you are going to pump the rest of this year and then she turns one in Jan, I would just put her onto Full cream milk or Nido in then new year and not worry about the Formula.

I didn't notice any constipation or problems when I put my daughter onto normal milk, so I wouldn't stress about weaning or introducing over December, you should be fine in January to introduce one bottle of Nido or milk in the day, while you continue to breastfeed morning and night - remember their digestive systems are alot more developed by age 1.

good luck

Hi everybody

My bubs is almost 11 months old and I’ve exclusively breastfed up until now. I went back to work after maternity leave when she was 5 months old and have been pumping milk at work ever since, twice a day, with 3 ½ to four hour stretches between each pumping session. I’ve managed to pump an average of 300ml at the beginning, which was fed to her the following day along with her solids.

Lately, as she’s getting older and not needing to nurse as often, I’m struggling to pump out enough milk for her, or at least I think so. I get about 200ml – 260 ml and I’m worried that it might not be enough for her during the day. Her caregiver splits the milk and gives some at 10h30/11h00 and then again at 14h00/14h30. I’m taking Fenugreek tablets, drinking lots of water and also drinking Jungle juice. She nurses right before I go to work and when I get home and also when she goes to bed at night, and she wakes up once a night to nurse. I’m planning on pumping until my last working day for 2012 before going on annual leave, but I don’t plan on pumping when I return to work in 2013, but will continue to breastfeed for as long as she wants/there’s still milk. She turns 1 on 4 January so I’m going to introduce Nido (or some or other growing up milk) during the Christmas holidays to prepare her system for when I go back after my leave, because I’ve heard they can get constipated if they’re not used to the milk.

Now what I’d like to know, is 11 months too early to introduce Nido (this would be in addition to the pumped milk she will be getting during the day, more of a top-up than a full feed)? I don’t think it would be worth it to go the formula (Nan, etc) route since I’m planning on introducing Nido anyway in a couple of weeks time.

Responses will be greatly appreciated.
