Out of interest, which clinic do you take him to? Are you based in CT northern suburbs at all?

My friend's daughter was also never particularly interested in milk and the first clinics she went to stressed her out terribly. Then she found one she really liked and the sister never made her stress about how much/little her daugther was drinking, instead she focused on whether the baby was doing well, developing, that sort of thing, rather than just checking that the baby was following the guidelines written in a book. Remember those are just that - guidelines. Every baby is an individual and some will weigh on the top of hte charts, others will weigh on the bottom of hte chats, and yet all will still fall within the realm of "normal". There is such a wide range of "normal" that it really is very stressful if you follow a small range of numbers to check on.

Thank You Ladies

I know i shouldnt be worried! But why do these clinic sisters always makes me so stressed up about little things like this!

Its SO hard NOT to compare them to each other. Guess its just a mental thing i need to come over

I'm with huggles on this one. A gain is a gain. As long as he is fine and sleeping well (ish for a baby) can go stretches. I don't know how long you go between feeds for them but perhaps Emma can go 4 hours but Japie only 3.

Today our second little girl is 4 months old, she is breastfed, if you give her a bottle of expressed milk she will drink 60 - 80ml. That is why I try never to express because then I don't know how much she drinks and can't compare it with another baby her exact age. I have also only had her weighed once at 2 weeks to make sure she was gaining from breastmilk, again, so I can't compare. A friend of mine's baby lost 150g in 4 weeks, she is stressed beyond comprehension, which I wouldn't be, not for what I know of her baby anyway.

Trust your gut, not the numbers on the scale (as a society we have a weird fascination with numbers on a scale!) I know this might be a bit harder for you given your history, but if he seems fine, looks fine, acts fine, then I guarantee you he's fine!

Firstly, congratulations on your twins!

Did the clinic sister seem at all concerned about Japie's weight or how he was doing?

Try not to compare the two. I know it's hard to do, especially since they are both there with you all the time and they are exactly the same age and twins and everything, but remember that they are still individuals. Each one is different, and all babies drink differently and gain weight at different rates.

My son was never much of a milk drinker. He almost always drank less than the "recommended" amount, but he drank what he needed. Babies will never starve themselves. As long as he is offered milk, he will drink what he needs and no more/less. And the fact that he HAS gained weight is a great sign. Even if he did gain less than his sister, 700g is still a good gain.

Some babies seem to drink loads, and others only drink a little, but each one instinctively knows what he/she needs and so will only drink that amount.

Good luck and I hope your twins bring you much joy and happiness.

I have 10w old twins, boy and a girl! They went for their injections yesterday. Emma is picking up weight nicely. But Japie not. Emma picked up 1.1kg in a month but Japie only 700g. Emma drinks 120ml but Japie mostly between 60 - 90ml...

i'm one stressed up mommy

Any advice?
