exclamation-circle Why it's NB to introduce Finger Foods at 6 months

I know, it is like a scene from a B-Grade horror movie. And somehow there are always carrots in the puke, even though they have never actually had carrots - maybe there is a carrot gland??

I really get resistant to the idea at the thought of the results. I sort of accepted that I might just need to keep her on liquidised vegetables or fruit until her 16th birthday, I was sort of okay with that.

But with much reluctance and heel kicking I will try a banana this weekend .....

Rm I have a serial projective vomiter. Horrid. Dylan would shoot milk right across the lounge so yes I understand the need to minimise the weapon of mass destruction.

I used to give him his bottle and then quickly put him in the middle of the floor and wait.

I was terrified of him.

Mom of Dylan and Partner to Joerg. We live in the Beautiful Pringle Bay which is along the Whale coast, Cape.

Clearly my reluctance to give my daughter anything that is going to make her puke, is linked to my aversion to the amount of vomit she places on to me.

I can't quite explain the speed and velocity that this stuff comes out at. I usually sit on the kitchen floor to avoid spoiling any furniture or appliances.

There is so much puke that I have to wash the kitchen floor, put her and me in the shower, wash hair, all our clothes go in the wash, and sometimes the cat needs a wipe down too.

But I will give the banana a go with weekend - I might just give her a flings and hope for the best .... <sigh>

Kyle's school teacher has even told me now to stop sending him puritys to school cause she doesnt believe he needs it anymore. She only wants to give him fresh cooked foods which is brilliant.

I also dont force him to eat. I wanted to give him veggies last night while we were eating and he actually cried because he was full and didnt want to eat anymore.

Haha Justine that is SO CUTE!

I have always had a different view on feeding. I can't judge how much B should be eating. For fear of underfeeding my child we always 'forcefed' her (she's very busy and it was difficult to get her to sit still)

But in the 3.5 months (we started at 5.5 months) since we started with baby-led weaning (not feeding cereals and purees) she has slept through a lot of times (lets say thats the indication of a full happy baby!)

So the little bit that she can feed herself is more than enough for her. She knows when to stop and isn't forces to eat so she will try anything (even cat food, haha)

The Best of all: No meal time battles, no rushing to feed her so the rest of the family can eat dinner, no stuggling with a bored baby when we are trying to eat. The three of us sit down for dinner together and B is content with feeding herself until we are all done. Brilliant!

Marijke, I must admit, I follow and try all the advise you have been giving on feeding. :)

There were so many things I was too afraid to give Kyle as I was scared he would choke, but he has suprised me so much. I had decided from the begining that Kyle will only be getting purity and baby cereal until 1 but have changed my mind 360 degrees.

I had given Kyle a drumstick last night and he loved it. He wouldnt let go of it. Even when I bathed him, he wouldnt let go, so the chicken had a bathe too  Only when he fell asleep could I take it away.

Or RM maybe try offering her very very soft finger food that she can hold and feed herself with at her own time..like maybe a banana to nibble on until whenever..then slowly introduce a different fruit which has more texture..
maybe that way she can slowly get used to the feeling of food with texture in her mouth..
