I also used the Tommee Tippee manual pump, and I was happy with it. I did find a lot of chaffing when I used it at first, but after I few more tries I found my rhythm and it worked well for me.

I returned to work and continued to express, and it pumped more than enough milk. Although I think it depends on the individual.

i'm also expecting my first baby. i got the Nuk manual pump.
i have 2 friends that had electric pumps that had bad experiences so thats why i got a manual pump.
very interested to see how it works.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Breast pumps are individual choice. What works for one mom, might not work for another mother.

I personally prefer a double electric pump because I work full day & need to express at least 2/3 times a day as it works quicker.

Medela is a very good brand but the Medela Swing Maxi is the best choice in the brand because the other Medela pumps are not a closed system as they make it out to be, which means the milk can get into the motor etc & you would have to open it open and clean it (whole routine thing to do).

Spectradew 350 is also a good option & then there is a new one on the market - the Ameda breast pump(this one is a bit expensive) but if your medical aid allows it, you can put it through the medical aid. I bought both of mine through the medical aid.

I had a Lansinoh which worked well but I feel it didn't drain my breasts completely. I bought the Medela Swing Maxi yesterday and put it through my medical aid (it goes off the savings) and paid R2400 for it.

You just need to have a nappi code & then the pharmacist can check if the medical aid will pay for it.

I used the Tommee Tippee manual breastpump with my first baby and will use it again with my second. I was very happy with it, I thought it performed very well for a manual pump. If you want to go electric then you'll pay a lot more. I love the Tommee Tippee range, it's quite an expensive brand but good quality and my son loved the bottles when he was a baby. He had no problems drinking expressed milk from the bottles and switching back and forth between breast and bottle. Hope this helps.

Any opinions on breast pumps? I am pregnant with my first baby and don't know which brand to consider? I will be using it daily when I go back to work after maternity leave.
