file Anyone tried Lactaboost to increase milk supply?

Glad to be of help :)

It usually takes about 2 weeks for dairy to be out of your system, but can take up to 4 weeks. You should however start noticing a difference in the first week or so. If you want to have the best results you will have to be very careful as to what you eat, you will be shocked to see how much food products contain dairy, it is not only the obvious things that contain dairy. You will have to become one of those ladies that stand in the shopping aisle reading labels  Anything with the words "casein" or "lact-" in the ingredients list contain dairy.

You may want to switch the bottle of formula you give to a Hypoallergenic formula.

As to the oats, the results should be much quicker, about 2/3 days.

My LG was also on Nexium until she was about 5 months. It was the only thing that worked, provided we followed the instructions carefully, ie empty stomach and wait about 30mins before feed.

I would be careful with the Bennetts and try to limit its use as far as possible, I have heard it has negative side effects. On the other hand you don't want your LO to be suffering in pain. You can try Bonnycare (Dischem stocks it) as a natural alternative, but as with any herbal remedy it takes a few days to kick in. I have also heard that Colicalm is good, but I don't know where to buy that.

Thank you so much for the tips/advice! You guys are great! How long does it take to get results from cutting out dairy? I am going to eat lots of oats starting from tomorrow morning. Will it take a few days for my milk supply to increase from the oats? The paediatrician put my little one on Bennetts Colic Mixture for his colic and Nexium for his reflux, which seem to be helping but I would prefer something more natural. Funny enough, I have heard that probiotics help so I'm going to give them a go, thank you! Sad about the chocolate but us moms have to do what we've got to do lol. At least I can have the Jungle Oats Energy Bars, he he :) I'm glad your milk supply increased so much. I hope mine does that too! Xxx

Fully agree with cutting out all dairy for reflux!!And no chocolate!!! REally helps a great deal.

Don't get up to pump at night (you need rest too!!!), just pump as often as you can during the day. It is just the stimulation you want, you don't need to get any milk out. Rather more short pumping session than fewer long ones.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Hi again lindsaykim

Sorry to hear that your little one has colic and is suffering from reflux. My little one also had reflux. Hang in there, it will get better!

Have you tried probiotics for the colic? I gave my LG the Reuterina infant probiotic drops in her first three months. We had a big issue with reflux. I found that cutting out all dairy and soy from my diet made a big difference. There is a link between reflux/colic and dairy and soy intolerance in babies. Check out this link for more info: www.refluxrebels.com/MSPI/MSPI_Myths.html

Sorry, I digressed! I ate the Bokomo Quick Cooking Oats (orange box), but I don't think it will make a difference which brand you have. I ate a big bowl of oats in the morning for breakfast. Cutting out dairy was how I discovered the big difference oats made in my milk supply. As all cereals go with milk, oats was my only alternative. During the day I snacked on the Lite Jungle Oats Energy bars (those without the yoghurt and chocolate). I ended up having over-supply issues which then solved itself when I reduced my oats intake

Try this for a few days and let us know how it goes. All the best!

Hi haffie and Karmie. Thanks so much for your advice and comments :) I tried Brewer's Yeast but, like the Fenugreek, it seemed to give my little one very bad gas and cramps (He has reflux and colic and he seemed to become more colicky after I started taking it). I was pumping after every feed to help increase my milk supply but that did not seem to help much so I stopped when my paediatrician and routine therapist told me it was not necessary :( With power pumping would I pump every hour day and night for 2 to 3 days i.e. wake up at night to pump? Thanks, I will definitely give oats a try! How much should I have each day? Any specific oats? I tried to breastfeed exclusively on a few occasions but my little one cried frantically, as he was not getting enough milk, and he was literally on my breasts 24/7 acting very dissatisfied.

Hi lindsaykim

Congratulations on breastfeeding and for sticking it out through such difficulties.

I have never heard of Lactaboost, but what really boosted my milk supply was eating oats (porridge), I discovered it by accident, so don't ask me why it works! I recommended this to a friend of mine whose son also had a tongue tie, and she said it worked like a charm for her too.

I agree with Haffie on trying to pump extra, or the other thing you should try doing is stop the formula if you can, rather feed your little one more frequently. Your milk supply will match his needs quickly, just have faith

I have never heard of lactaboost, but have also used brewers yeast to build supply. Plus obviously drinking loads of water really helps. Other than that, perhaps have a power pump weekend, where you pump for 5 minutes a side every hour, or as often as you can. You should see results within two or three days. Good luck!!
