I agree with the fenugreek!! And oats! really helps. Also powerpumping over weekends helps too. Pump as often as you can for 5 min or so. Really helps give the supply a boost!

Hi Kades mom,

Just a side note, my supply had also waned a little because I'm at work from 8 to 5 and also travel a lot and fly a lot. My LG also REFUSES to touch the frozen breastmilk supply that I've built up so I don't have a stash..

I have tried everything, but I have found that when I take a fenugreek supplement and eat lots of oats, and keep to expressing at least twice during work, I can keep it up. Also remember that our babies only needs around 125ml of our milk at each feed (if they feed around 7 times in 24 hours). That means that you need to express enough for 3-4 bottles in a day. I also try to pump a bit every time after she's fed because for me, every 20ml count ;)

I don't believe in old wifes tales and so on so the oats came as a surprise to me!

At the end of the day however this is your decision and you will make the best decision for you and your baby with all the information on hand!

Hi Kades mom,

I'm with momtoc on the holding out for a month and then supplementing with milk. I agree that cow's milk is SO full of hormones and is thought to contribute to allergies and nasal drip, so not recommended. I'm not a great fan of oats or rice milk due to the lower protein and higher sugar/carb content.

I weaned my little girl onto goats milk at a year old, and would definitely recommend it. The protein structure is closer to human breast milk than cow's milk and less likely to cause allergies or lactose intolerance. And obviously less/no hormones. You can buy it at most Woolies stores and it freezes well if you need to.

The only disadvantage is that it is slightly lower in folate than cow's milk, but is you keep breastfeeding half the time, that should not be a problem.

Hi mrstl

thanks for your reply! ;)

Hi momtoc

Thank you so much! My LG was recently sick and we found out that she is severely anemic (her hemoglobin levels were 5!), since being diagnosed and on meds she is drinking a lot more from the bottle (when i'm not with her) I currently only express twice at work (due to my hours 08:00 until 14:30) She now drinks 3 bottles while not with her where it was a hell of alot less, two would be ALOT! I was pumping more that what she was drinking. Now i cant seem to keep up with that, my freezer stash is extremely low and will run out in a few days time, i also seem to be pumping less at work (more pressed for time i think) that any supply issues. Unless i opt for some egynol and up my supply a bit in the day to get more in a less amount of time? I will still breast feed her when i am with her.

Ive heard good reviews on similac?

TIA!

HI there Kades mom

That is wonderful that you are still bf you lo. You can be proud that you got this far.

My honest opinion is there is not one formula on the market that comes close to breast milk. Unfortunately I can't give advice on which one is good because I'm still bf my 19month old.

My first born was unfortunately a formula fed baby and she was on Novolac until age 2

Is there a specific reason why you want to stop expressing? Can you maybe hold out another month and then put your lo maybe on oats or rice milk for the missed feeds? They can go onto cows milk from age 1 but our milk are so full of hormones and not even worth it.

Hi Kades mom,

I'm also expressing and breastfeeding but I've heard that S26 Gold are the closest to breastmilk. Don't know if that is true so maybe the rest of the forum can help out.

Hi moms,

I am still breast feeding and expressing while at work for my 11 month old, however i am considering dropping the expressing at work and giving formula in the day. Can anyone recommended a good formula? TIA
