question-circle 9 month old refuses to eat protein

Hello Hopeful

So your fussy eater is now almost 11 months and maybe not so fussy anymore. I guess besides the protein you want your babe to consume enough iron. Well, minced meat is not nice, I have tried home made pureed minced meat and almost gagged myself. Something about the texture.
My baby seems to like "shredded' or pulled meat. Try flaking some fish or pulling& shredding stewed lamb&beef between your fingers and putting it in her mouth. The shredding will interest her and some meat will end up in the tummy. Also try mixing the shredded meat with something she likes.
And then eggs are also a nice option for protein & iron.

Hi there Hopeful!
I could not help popping in today (after being absent for so many months) and saw your post.

I would not worry if I where you. You can give her other forms of food to ensure that she gets enough proteien. My little girl also refused proteien in the beginning and a dietician recommended:

High fibre rice cakes with bovirol and cheese
Cheese spreads on finger cakes
full cream yougurt
french toast
White sauce over veggies

Hi Hopeful

I don't think you should worry to much. If I'm not mistaken their nutrition up until 1 year is mostly from milk. Does she eat eggs? I will just continue offering it to her even if she is not eating it, maybe she'll come around.

Good luck!

Hi there Ladies, I have 9 month old twin girls. They eat really well three meals a day with two small snacks one normally of fruit and the other yoghurt.

My problem is that one of my girls refuses to eat any protein in the form of meat. I normally use Purity as this is convenient but the moment it contains meat she gags herself on it and refuses to continue eating.
I have tried to mix in some chicken/beef mince in vegetables that she likes but its the same story.
She will eat a "worsie" or "droewors" but as she is still very young most of this lands on the floor and on her face and not where it is suppose to go so giving this to her as a dinner protein is really not effective.

Is it really important that she gets in the protein ( she is still on 3 x 200ml NAN formula ) or should I just relax and allow her to eat what she prefers?

Please let me know what you mommies think
