Don't worry - I think everyone feels completely lost when they first start their baby on formula. Here is 2 methods that I use:

Day:
- I keep a glass jug of boiled water in the fridge so that it is chilled, when baby needs a bottle, I pour half the fridge water into his bottle and boil the kettle, for the other half of hot boiled water - the bottle temperature works out perfectly. I then pour the formula into his bottle and mix.

I heard that microwaves create heat pockets so I've stayed away from using the microwave to heat bottles.

Night:
- I keep bottles of cooled water next to my bed - filled to the amount that baby drinks, when baby wants the bottle, I pop the bottle into the bottle warmer and it heats it up to the right temperature and then I pour the formula in.

For my baby shower I got loads of formula containers that stack on top of each other, but they are really quite a mission to unscrew and sort out, when trying to get to the formula - so I found a round formula container that has 3 triangular sections in it, the top then twists to the section that you need. Really easy and quick to make their bottle.

I hope this info helps!

Room temp is actually fine. Some babies like warm some like cold. Room temp is great though as baby gets used to it and you don't have to go hunting to make it warm enough when you are out etc.

I used water from out fridge dispenser now that Dylan is older as it has a filter etc. It is cold so I just microwave the water for 20 seconds to get it to room temp and then add the powder.

If you add powder to hot water it will cause constipation. This is what the dietitan told me.

I use the avent dispensers. They are pricey but are really nice and once lo is older you can remove the inner division and use it as a feeding bowl or we put marie biscuits in it for a treat when we go shopping. It keeps him busy.

Is it always neccessary to warm up the formula before drinking? If its room temperature, is it ok? My LG is one years old now and been on formula for a month.

I would just make up the bottles in the morning (with cooled boiled water) and pop in the fridge. When I needed a bottle I would take it out and pop in the microwave.
It can last up to 24 hours in the fridge.

Just remember to take the teats off when microwaving (they melt) and to give the bottle a gentle shake after microwaving, as it heats up unevenly. If you make it too hot by mistake, you can pop the bottle in a jug of cold water to cool it a bit.

You can also pop the bottle in a jug of hot water, but it takes a while to warm up properly.

oh thanks Nayeela. This is exactly the info I was looking for.
Where do I get those formula dispensing containers? Clicks, Dischem? What do they look like?

Hi Sal,

Here is what I do:

K drinks 225 ml of formula in each bottle.

- In the morning, I boil a full kettle and add 150 ml of boiled water to each of her bottle.
- Then I put the rest of the boiled water in a small flask that I use throughout the day.
- I measure the 10 scoops of formula in those little dispensing containers
- When I make her bottle, I add 75 ml of boiled water (from the flask) to the previously boiled 150 ml (thats just to get the temp right) and add formula. Even when we go out or at night, I make her bottle on the spot using the same method. It works really well.
-If there is any water left from the mroning kettle, I put that in a jug to use in the day should I run out of cooled boiled water.

Those formula dispensing containers are so handy when you formula fead. No need to squint in teh night trying to remeber how many scoops you already added :) Lol!

I'm switching from BF to formula today. Dropping one feed a week for 4 weeks. My LO is 3 months.
After reading the back of the NAN tin, I'm confused. Boil water, cool water, then heat the water again for the formula? WTF? Is this all necessary? How do I reheat the boiled cooled water? Microwave it to the correct temp in the NUK bottle then add the powder? Can one put a NUK bottle in the microwave?

Then if I'm going out and will need to feed my LO, can I take the boiled cooled water and mix it with the powder in the bottle and when out just reheat the bottle?

How does this all work?
HELP I feel so stupid!
