A very good friend om mine had a waterbirth (actually twice) at the Femina clinic with a midwife. She was really happy with both experiences. The only thing she was not happy with was the lactation consultant. They were not helpfull at all. This could have been a single incident, I can't really comment if this is the norm.

Mamma2012,

I'm sad to inform you that I don't know of one person who has had a vaginal never mind natural birth with dr Kleynhans. If I where you I'd go for the free info session with midwives-exclusive (Birth centre is in Rietondale and they do births at Femina if you want to birth in a hospital).

Sadly in SA our c-section rate is soooo high that you basically have a 10% chance of actuallly getting a natural birth if you go to the standard run of the mill gyni and do a standard hospital birth. If its a natural birth you want, you might have to work for it a little bit and be extra prepared.

Good luck!!

Yes, it is the time convenience issue, but also doctors will tell you that a planned c-sec has less complications and risks involved for them. Doctors don't want it on their records that a child or mother had serious complications or death from a natural birth. From a doctor's point of view a planned c-sec is a less risky situation than a normal birth. (I am not argueing it is true, just this is what I have heard!)

I do agree with gloeiwurmpie.

My mom was a nurse and she told me most Dr's also prefer doing c-sections as its over and done with and convenient for them - c-sections are also usually done during the week - thus leaving them with a weekend that they can enjoy with no "call-outs".

Hi Confused,

Welcome to moomie! You have come to the right place!

It is my experience that most doctors nowadays prefer c-sections as it is more convenient for them so many levels.

There are so many knowledgable ladies here on this forum regarding natural birth, I am sure they will respond soon!

Take a look at this thread, some ladies offer advice here as where to have a natural birth.

Hello everyone,

I would like to know whether there is anyone on the forum who gave normal birth with dr Miems Kleynhans(Pretoria east hospital) as their gynea?

How was your experience? I got the impression that she was not very keen on the idea of a normal birth and that she would prefer a c-section although there are no complications with my pregnancy.

Any comments?
