file Vbac northern suburbs?

Hi Coco - We don't really have many options with private midwives in the Northern Suburbs. You're right - most of them are in the Southern Suburbs - there is also one in Paarl and one in Somerset West. Many of them are lovely - but you'd end up having your baby at a hospital further from home. Why don't you call the midwives at birth options (021 761 9623) and ask them about baby's size. My training as a doula taught me that the only way to know if a baby is too big to be birthed naturally is by trial of labour. Gynaes do however often suggest caesarian delivery for bigger babies. Baby's weight is only an estimate. I was told my baby would be 4.2kg, and she came out weighing 3.5kg. If you'd like names and numbers for any of the midwives, let me know.

Hi Coco!

How long ago did you have the c-sec? A vbac does get riskier the bigger tha baby is.

I was also hoping for a vbac second time round (had an emergency c-sec with 1st LG), but in the end had an elective c-sec at 39w4d.

I got pre-eclampsia for the second time and baby was estimated at 4kg+, so the doctor suggested a 2nd c-sec and I decided it would be safer for both of us. In the end I was very glad, because my 2nd LG was 4,425kg!

I don't know of any midwives in the northern suburbs, but if your gynae is supportive why would you consider changing?

Vbac northern suburbs? was created by Ankie
Hi ladies

What options do women in the northern suburbs of cape town have regarding vbacs? It looks like all the midwives are in the southern suburbs? If your baby is expected to be more than 4 kg would a midwife still let you have a vbac? Or am I silly hoping for a vbac with an expected big baby?

My current gynea (not the same one I had with my first child) so far seems supportive of a vbac. I'm just so scared of ending up with another c section.

Background info - Took gynea up on suggestion, had an elective c section because my baby was estimated to be big. She was born at 39 weeks weighing 4.2kg. Currently 22 weeks pregnant with a boy.
