This is so frustrating!!!! I really feel for you.
My suggestion would be to get statistics of how many natural births your dr has done over the last 3 months & then the stats of natural births done by the femina midwives and present the figures to your medical aid stating the cost saving they as a medical aid will make if the pay your midwife's fees.
Finances are a huge factor going forward - it's a massive shortfall BUT the comprehensive care you receive for you & your baby in comparison to gynae care - definately outweighs the costs.
for example - your gynae will not be with you through your labour, rubbing your back , encouraging you with kind words - a midwife will
Your gynae will have to be "called" in to come and "catch" the baby - which can cause an unhealthy shift in the birthing atmosphere. - your midwife would have been with you all the while & will instinctively know when the birth is about to happen and without any fuss or upheavel be ready to help YOU BIRTH YOUR BABY.
A gynae does not provide any care for your baby - that task gets handed over to the assisting midwife -then a paediatrician.....
your midwife would have already come to know your babythrough your monthlyh check ups and she provides gentle loving postnatal support for both you & your baby for up to 6 weeks after birth - even in your home! Gynae's do not do home visits!
Then you may not have the option of a waterbirth if you're iwth a gynae as they most often don't know how to facilitate these - midwives do!
Anyway - I wish you luck tackling the medical aid but I can't over-emphasise how "worth- it"midwifery care is
all the best

Hey,

I need some advice. I want a natural birht, and did go to Midwifes Exclusive at Femina hospital. I phoned my Medical Aid now, and they pay more or less nothing for a midwife assisted birth. We will ahve to pay in R6500... If i choose to stay at my Gyne (at PTA East hospital) I will only pay R1500. This is a BIG price difference for me.

Do you think I should stay at Gyne, or make a plan to go to midwifes (this will ahve to be a big plan). I have heard that my Gyne is pro Natural, and if this is true, i would not mind to stay with him.

Please give me some advise!
