Hi ladies

Hope you're doing well.

I just found out that my gynae only do c -sections. I'm considering a midwife, first pregnancy, any thoughts?

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Hello, I am also looking for a good, preferably female gynae who is pro-natural in the West Coast area. The 2 hospitals that are close to me are Milnerton Medi-Clinic and Netcare Blaauwberg. I had a natural delivery on my first child in Joberg and would like to give birth the same way. I'm in Cape Town now and due mid 2014.Thanks

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with giving birth at Mitchell's plain melomed hospital? We have dr. David's and are trying to make a decision between a private midwife at Mowbray where if you need to have a c section you might end up waiting for a long time if your baby is not in distress, or a private hospital without midwife. I want to totally go for natural birth but is that really impossible in a private hospital in this country? Would love to hear some thoughts on that!

Hi BritMom,

welcome and congrats!

Just to add to what spiral said: Kingsbury is known as Caesar's Palace :( and seeing that you live in Claremont I would much rather suggest you go to Vincent Palotti, which is not far away in Pinelands.

Dr. Dumbrill is one of the very few gynaes in CT who are pro-natural as are most of his colleagues at VP. Dr. Searle (female) is also there and apparently a lovely doc.

I would definitely definitely suggest the same as spiral: if you want a natural (possibly water and/ or home birth), get yourself a private midwife as your primary caregiver with a backup gynae at VP. Just check if your medical aid will cover midwife check ups and birth - many don't unfortunately.

Good luck and all the best!

Thanks so much for the link and suggestions - I'll look into them straight away. Of course, there's a long way to go until I give birth but I really want to explore every possibility.

Thanks again!
