Hi NatashaM

I had my little girl (18 months) at Wilgeheuwel with Dr Packirisammy.

I was in a general ward with 2 other mommies - although they do take up to 4 in the general wards. Even so, I did not have a problem with privacy - although i did request a bed close to a window when I booked my bed.

The staff are AMAZING! Honestly! They helped me so much when my milk came in (at 2am) and I was sore and swollen. They do take the babies to the nursery on the first night and bring them to you for feeding every 3 hours. Initially I was upset by this but when the day arrived I was glad for the rest!

The ladies from the baby clinic are also fantastic and very knowledgeable.

Good Luck and shout if you have more questions.

Hi Natasha

I've been with Dr Schulz for almost 7 years now
He is a wonderful doctor.

Visiting hours for all the people are from 15:00 - 16:00 and from 19:15 - 20:15
Only hubby is allowed to come any time.

Grandparents are allowed to be there for a few mins after birth but that is it. Then strictly only visiting hours.

You also don't have to tell everybody that they are allowed to come. It is your choice who you want there. You can tell a white lie ;)

Hi Momtoc

Thanks so much for the great feedback, this is exactly what I was hoping to hear :)
I am with Dr Schultz at Gynomed. He has been wonderful so far. I'm hypertensive so considered a high risk pregnancy. But my medication has been keeping things in check

My first born was in another hospital around the area and it was really a dreadful experience. I was left for almost 24 hours after the birth before I could see my son. The nurses were rude and unhelpful. My milk dried up 4 days after the little one was born. I never got to the ''let down" stadium and swore that come hell or high water I will BF this time around.

I would definitely want to limit the amount of people that come around and would prefer if visitors were only aloud during visiting hours. I don’t want to have visitors overwhelm me... and my in-laws can be a bit much.

Thank you very much for offering your positivity. I would never decline such a wonderful over

Hi Natasha

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Who is your gynae?

I had both my children at Wilgeheuwel. My daughter is 6 and my son is 1.

I had a private room with my son and it was so nice. Anyone can come & visit you and baby. They allow 4 people at a time.

Dad can visit any time he wants which is awesome.

The nurses are wonderful and the ones I got were very pro breastfeeding. Not once did they offer formula cause I would've told them where to get off.
All you have to do is just make a list of your wishes or when you go view the maternity ward, talk to the sisters or your gynae regarding your preferences and see if they are willing to accommodate them.

You can also ask that baby be put on the breast as soon as possible.

You can maybe look into joining the La Leche League South Africa on fb as they are all about bf and can support you all the way even when you are in hospital and need assistance.

If you need someone to talk to or help, I would be more than happy to cheer you along :-)

Hi Ladies

We are planning to have our little one at Life Wilgeheuwel and I would like to know if anyone else has been there and what the experience has been?
My first time giving birth was a horrid experience and therefore I am extremely concerned with the service that will be offered.

How do you feel about privacy in the maternity ward? Do they restrict visitors?
What has your experience been with the nurses? How accommodative are they with the father?
Was the advice and assistance you received for breastfeeding enough?
Am I going to get pushed in a corner room whilst getting prepared for my CSec and be left at my own devices or will there be someone that takes personal interest in my welbeing?
