Hi Claire
Congrats on your third! We are currently trying for number 3 and I have a lot in common with you..... I don't know for sure, but I have read that Sandton Medi-clinic has water birth facilities? And I'm pretty sure Parklane Clinic as well. I'm waiting til actually pregnant to make enquiries. Try phoning the hospitals closest to you, I have been surprised by the changes and options since my second son's birth in 2008. Sunninghill seems very good - I've had a lot of positive feedback about supporting moms in labour/post birth (although no water birth facilities). Let me know what you find out/decide to do.

I hope someone can help me...

I am looking for a hospital and a doctor that would be happy to do a water birth. This is my third baby and for both my other deliveries, I would have loved water births but it wasn't possible. I did labor in the water though and it always sped things along and helped with the pain.

I am in the Joburg North area. We can't afford Genesis and my medical aid won't cover all the costs involved. I have thought about a home birth but with 2 small children at home, I would rather have the few days in hospital to recover.

I love my gyni, but he has moved hospitals and I really don't like the look of the labor and delivery ward in the new hospital. Seeing as you only see the dr for the last 30 minutes of labor, I don't think it's worth it.

Has anyone here had a water birth in a hospital?
