Hi Gain-a-baby,
I was with Dr Mark Siebritz at Cape Gate. I was due on valentines day but because baby was in a strange position her head measured too small. Dr decided as a precaution to rather let her come earlier via induction. I checked in to the hospital on 2 Feb, got a very friendly and helpful reception by staff.
I was induced and after a few hours my contractions started to get strong. Myself and baby was monitored and I was dilating well. After a while it seemed that babys heartrate lowered quite a bit when contractions became too strong. The nurses felt that I might have to have a c-section but when my dr came in he said that everything looked fine for natural birth. He broke my water and 9 hours later my little girl was born naturally. The nurse that assisted during birth was very friendly and soooo helpful, she held my hand and encouraged me all the way. She also helped baby latch for her first feed.
After the birth I was taken back to my room and nurses came to check on me regularly. They also asked to take baby to the baby room for the first night so that I could rest but at first I prostested and then gave in. It was a good decision because I got to rest a bit as natural birth is extremely tiring.
I stayed for 2 nights after the birth. The rooms are very clean and new. I had a semi-private room which means I had my own room but shared a bathroom with one other lady. They did not charge extra for this room. The rooms are airconditioned and the food is great. They bring you a menu in the morning to choose what you will be having for breakfast lunch and dinner.
It was a great experience and very relaxed environment. The only thing I would do differently next time is to ask for the epidural sooner. Other than that I would not change a thing.
Looking forward to have my second baby at Cape Gate again in the near future
