Hi MrsJ

I am due end of Jan, my Gynae is Dr Zinn, we recently discussed the birth (early yes). I previously had a natural birth in the UK so I asked him what my options are here, to which the reply was basically any kind of birth I want, he will assist me with, I told him I dont see the point in having a C-Section given that ive had a natural birth before, and he said absolutely.

I stayed at Kingsbury hospital for a couple of nights early on in my pregnancy in the maternity ward, and the staff there were sooo lovely.

Don't know if this helps : )

I am a doula and I have supported a natural birth at Kingsbury. The gynae was Dr Kerry Sherwood. One of my colleagues has attended a natural birth there with Dr Phillip Zinn. But remember each birth is different. The important thing is to educate yourself so that you make the right decisions leading up to the birth. Also - as mentioned before, having a doula helps!

Hi there MrsJ,

Will be watching your post as I want the same answer!
I'm curious to know, who is your doctor? And have you discussed birth plans with him/her?
My regular gynae at Kingsbury shot me down when I brought up the topic of vaginal birth and I will be changing doctors (we're not even pregnant yet, but like to plan ahead!) I've heard that Dr Andrew Newham is very good if you would like to have a natural birth. If anyone else can comment on him too please do!

Thanks for the reply, really hoping that I get a response as I am considering changing gynaes/hospitals. I think your idea of a doula is a good one, thanks so much

I hope you get a response here, I'm from Pretoria so can't comment on your question. But I would advise getting a doula to help support you and help you stay with your birthing preferences if you are planning to have a natural birth in any hospital. Plus a doula will probably have been to that hospital before and know their way around and could tell you straight out if your chances of having a natural birth could be hindered by the specific hospital's protocol.

Hi all, so glad to have found this forum! Please if anyone has actually had a natural birth at Kingsbury in Cape Town, please can you tell me about it and who your gynae was? Is there anyone planning to give birth in Kingsbury this year?

I am due in December and am finally starting to think about birthing options and have heard some bad things about Kingsbury being called "Caesar's palace"etc. Now I'm worried that I won't have the option of a natural birth if that is what I decide. Kingsbury is really convenient as it is down the road from me there are also sentimental reasons as myself and my husband were both born there!

Thanks for any help
