HI

Yes with a C-section you normally have a spinal. I had one in 2012 and will have another in February. I had 2 side effects, but nothing too bad. I was shivering until they pushed me out of the Operating Room, but that could have been more nerves than anything else. Also a day or two after I developed a massive headache and they said it could be because of the spinal. No pain meds worked for that headache. Once I drank a liter or two of water and took a nap with head down no pillow under your head for about three hours, only then the headache disappeared and it didn't return ever since so i do think it was because of the spinal. But I also think spinal is best. As it gives you COMPLETE pain relief very quickly.

Hope this help

Hi,

I agree with SwartKat, with C-sect they usually give a spinal. It is a much thinner needle and "less invasive" since it is only an injection into the spine, whereas with the epidural is a thin catheter that is inserted in the spine until the delivery is over.

I didnt nave any after effects, except that my blood pressure dropped sharply directly after they administered the spinal, which made me light headed for about 2 minutes, until the aneasthetist gave me something for it.

I had a very good experience with the spinal, my legs started tingling (feeling coming back) about 2 hours after delivery as well. My delivery was late afternoon, so catheter was also only removed the next morning.

Hi,

A spinal block is performed with a C-section, and an epidural with a normal delivery. If you are doing a C-section you will automatically have a spinal block.

I had a C-section in 2012, and will definitely do the same with a 2nd baby. I started getting feeling back in my legs about 2 hours after the delivery, and from there it took about another 1-2 hours before full sensitivity was restored.

The catheter is only removed the following morning, so although you have feeling in 100% of your body you won't be able to get out of bed.

No side effects for me, except that I was vomiting for about 2 hours after the spinal wore off. Anaesthetic makes me ill, so that part wasn't a surprise.

Hello everyone,

My due date has been moved to 10th October due to gestational diabetes. The c-section will be scheduled and I'm currently researching pain relief options.

What are your views/opinions on Spinal block and Epidural?

Spinal block:
Were you numb for more than 24hours?
Did you experience a side effect of itching all over?

Epidural:
How long after the removal of the catheter did you get feeling back?
Any side effects?

Thank you
