Hi Newbaby, please contact Kim Young from BeautifullyBorn HypnoBirthing, she is in Cape Town and will be able to advise you on midwives in the area. She is on this forum but it might be easier to go to our website www.beautifullyborn.co.za and send an inquiry, it will go through to her.

Why don't you rather look into other ways of pain management? A good antenatal course that focuses on natural birth can be a great help. I did HypnoBirthing and had beautiful births without the need for any pain management.

Hi,

I know one of the doctors in maternity at a state hospital (Baragwanath) who says epidural is available from 9am - 5pm weekdays, when the anaesthetists are there. It may depend on how busy they already are, and may vary from hospital to hospital. I'd call Cael Bremner and ask for maternity and check directly with them.

Hi

Unfortunately state hospitals don't provide that facility. You can go to a semi private hospital, where the cost Is way cheaper and you have an option of epidural.

Newbaby, as far as I know they don't give epidurals at state hospitals at all. There are several other pain management methods you can look into. I have given birth three times without any pain medication and the plus side of that is that you can get up immediately.

Birth is so beautiful and wonderful, it's great to work with your baby if possible. I am happy to give you some ideas on books to read if you'd like. You can also start by reading our Birth Series It's a series of article son different births moms have experienced. Here's the link: www.moomie.co.za/birth-series
