How did u find Phindi as ur Midwive?

For a natural birth you usually stay for 1 night, and for a c-sec, three. If hubby sleeps over those nights, it included in the 'facility' charge that the medical aid paid.
If you stay an additional night and hubby stays as well, that is when the amount on the website gets added

Both times (different midwives, second time Phindi...) I had to pay the midwife's delivery fee cash upfront, and then claim back from the medical aid after delivery.
Unfortunately they don't cover midwives in full, so both times they only refunded a portion (but then again, I saved so much by not seeing the gynea very often, it still worked out better )

I only started seeing the midwife at about 20 weeks, so not sure about having an appointment before... generally I would think that a check-up would rather be with the gynea.

Thank you for sharing your story,I'm strongly considering VBAC,I'm not yet pregnant but planning to do so in about 3 months,there will be a gap of 5 yrs from my first one which was a c section because her heart was suffering and had to go for an emergency c section,so I'm hoping this time around it would be fine.

I'm thinking of using Dr Maasdorp and Phindi as a midwife. Just one question when it comes to the delivery charge,when using medical aid,the amount mentioned on the website for your spouse to sleep over one night is that included on the medical aid as part of the authorization? Or is it only the delivery that is covered and If all goes according to plan and the midwive does the delivery,will the medical aid pay her directly via the authorization?

Would you say it necessary to meet the midwife prior to conciving ? Or take may supplements?

I'm seeing Dr Naidoo - she's been fantastic so far. She consults at Linkwood but is also authorised for deliveries at Park Lane and Genesis. I was also able to get an appointment with her without a 4 month wait (I booked at 12 weeks, which was in plenty of time for my 20 week checkup and scan, depending on her schedule she might be able to accommodate you with shorter notice, but call and see) - 011 485 3250

wide-eyed, which doctor did you choose from Park Lane and Genesis both? I want to go to Genesis but I am struggling to find a doctor at Parklane that I can get an appointment with so that they can be the backup. We don't want Linkwood or Sandton as Parklane is the closest after Genesis.

Vendah, you are in good hands at Genesis. They will help you with everything you want help with. They are very pro skin to skin and breastfeeding and will make sure that you have all the help you need. Bathing is actually so easy, you won't have a problem with that, its actually good not to bath your baby for the first couple of days as the vernix should first be re-absorbed. But usually your midwife or doula can come and help you at home if you ask for assistance with a first bath.

thank you for the response, i have been with Genesis from 9 weeks and have chosen a midwife already (Phindi) i am now 26 weeks and i had my last visit with her at 24 weeks but i couldn't ask her all these questions as i had a horrible flu and my voice was completely gone lol.

I am glad they have pain meds, i am planning on going completely natural but this is my first so i am a bit nervous.

i am also nervous about breast feeding and bathing the child, i am glad the assist with those
