KZN Hospitals and Medical Aid Plans

Hi ladies..

I'm also on keycare plus and I'm having a hard time trying to find a gynae and hospital. I'm trying not to have to pay out of pocket for anything unless I really have too..

I've been to pather and ismail before when I was dealing with cysts and didn't like how brash they were. Any recommendations will be appreciated

Thank you so much for your recommendation, funny I just called Dr Pather I will be seeing her this Saturday and I booked St Augustine for child birth I stay in Musgrave. So far I'm happy I'm looking forward to meet with Dr Pather I'm sure she will be able to see the gender. I'm 29 weeks and still don't know the gender *sad*

Congrats on Baby!!

If I were on Coastal Saver I would Definitely go and see Dr Pather at St Augustines.
For a lot of people she seems very brash- but shes to the point and doesnt muck around. Her main priority is you and baby- but also has patience when you have questions and is very in depth showing you different things on the scan.

Also- St Augustines is a BEAUTIFUL hospital to give birth at. Most of the babies in my family have been born there. The staff are incredibly friendly and everything feels clean and safe.

I see Dr Wellensiek at Kingsway hospital (even though we're now based in Westville) and he is also such a wonderful doctor and the Maternity Wing at Kingsway has just been Upgraded!

Good Luck on your search. Doesn't seem like you gynae is being very understanding and/or has the time to spend with you for reassurance.

Thank you Kal for the topic, I'm really sorry I don't have advises for you I'm very confused.

I just joined the group today. I'm 25 weeks now everything is perfect with my pregnancy. But I have doubt with my gyn its like his just making money that all. His not supportive, no advices, we spend less than a minute checking the scan. Last app I ask my partner if he sees what the gyn is showing us on the scan. He said the only thing he can see is the heart beat.

I'm on Discovery Coastal Saver, due Nov 6 I was planning to use Parklands but now I have my doubts I'm thinking St Augustine's Hospital or Westvile or Thekwini life.

I stay at Musgrave, if anyone knows a better gyn around please help time is not on my side.

So glad to hear everyone had found doctors and hospitals that you're happy with!

We've decided to go to Dr Wellensiek at Kingsway Hospital.
I'm yet to meet this doctor, but have my first appointment with him in August (16 weeks- as scan for down syndrome and sex can be done then)

He charges KeyCare Plus rates, even though he isnt on the network and has a Delivery Fee of R3000.
I love Kingsway Hospital and have been there twice in the last 5 years and loved how clean and safe it feels, and how helpful and happy the staff are.

We'll be exploring our options with keycare specialists for epidurals and pediatricians as well.

I am on discovery keycare plus and so far it has been great. The gyne I am using is Dr A.K Ismail, he is based at Nu Shiaf hospital in Sydenham. Which is a network hospital. He is however not a network specialist but I do feel that he is very accomodating in this regard, his total cost is 700 a visit and hel charge consult to the medical aid which is covered under specialist benefit and you can pay 300 cash for the scan. He also charges a 3000 co deposit if you will be having the baby at nu shiaf or 4000 if you choose lets St Augustines. Depending what an which medical aid ul be covered by. I am really happy with him, (this is my first time using him) and he has made me feel so comfortable an safe right from the beginning of my pregnancy. I was skeptical at first about the hospital,since I had my first baby at Parklands, but after my younger sister had her ovarian cysts removed there.. I was quite please with the cleanliness and professionalism of the hospital that I feel totally fine about using it.

The only thing that is worrying me...is finding the right person that is covered by my plan to do my epidural. The people my gyne uses charges 4000 and im not so willing to pay that much when the medical aid does have a few that they cover.

So basically it means you cannot move onto Coastal saver now. That is the problem with keycare, you are very limited with the doctors and the hospitals.

I have not been to Cromptom, but I did hear that they have the best maternity ward. Do you have Gap cover?

I understand what you feeling, are there no other doctors at St Augustines that are fully covered by discovery? Maybe your GP can refer you to a doctor and hospital?

My friend on the keycare told me her doctor referred her to the hospital.
