Crompton Hospital & Dr Garrib

Nixyb*01 is there perhaps other hospitals in durban and surrounding areas that support the use of a midwife rather than using a OBGYN for birth? I am meeting with a midwife this Friday but would just like have more information . I am currently using services of an OBGYN but something is just telling me to go the more natural route . I It's been hard to find support from medical practitioners for going the more natural route. I have a normal pregnancy , not high risk at all but the amount of c-sections that are being performed is scary .

I live in Eshowe KZN and travel to Umhlanga for my appointments with my OBGYN as the practitioners are way to expensive in Ballito . So if Crompton Life is the only hospital that supports Midwife Leading Births then I have a problem with distance .

I must say that I have not used the hospital but my friend had her daughter there. It was a water birth. She loved every minute of it. She also used her midwife. She did not have any problems there. And she and baby went home I think the same day of I'm not mistaken.

Ps. She was from La Mercy.

Hi All

I am a first time Mom and am 10 w pregnant. On the recommendation from our midwife (who I am really happy with) my husband and I are considering a waterbirth at Crompton Hospital with our midwife using Dr Garrib as our backup OB GYN. I feel that here I will get to have the opportunity to have the birthing experience I have always wanted (all going well) with the knowledge that I have specialists/hospital on hand if any complications arise. I would love to hear about any experiences of this hospital/doctor etc.

(PS We live in Ballito so I know it will be a bit of a dive on the day but midwife is not worried about this as we do have a hospital just down the road in case of any crazy emergencies during pregnancy.)
