question-circle sleeping patterns and hyperactive?

Hi Mommies,

I too have the same problem with my little one. He's now 9 1/2 months. He used to sleep well during the day and recently finds it hard to. Wakes up at night couple of times now. Not sure if its the measles jab he's recently had though.

By the way, if its day time being out of the house and trying to get your little one to sleep, would recommend getting a Snoozeshade. Its a black out blind for the pram/ stroller. Creates a darkened environment so your little one can sleep better, blocking out distractions.

I got mine from calora. Its been helpful as it looks much neater than using a blanket which blows off in the wind.

Hi Natasja
Thanks so much - Where did you source the Therific Natural products? - The Kiddy calm - is this the same thing?
Kids are sooo intellegent - im sure he knows what he is doing when he gives me a hard time! - he loves bath time - so im all up for the bubble bath :)
i am just praying that my 8month is not hyperactive - im hoping that he is just very inquisitive - which he is
If i opt for the epsom salts - do i just put this in his water?
Thanks for the info and will be def looking for that book

Hi there!

I have posted elsewhere about the Therific Naturals products. It contains Magnesium Sulphate and is a bubble bath you use to bath your LO in. I have a 5 year old daughter which I suspects have ADD as my husband have it. She had terrible dreams at night and were fighting all the time in her sleep. She often still sleep in our bed. I started bathing her in her after I heard some stories about the stuff. Must say, I didn't see an effect immediately as some say they do, BUT after a month now, I can definitely see an improvement.

If you don't want to buy the products, get plain comment Epsom Salt from the local store and test it. What is nice though, is that the Kiddy-Calm comes in 4 funky flavours and colours with BUBBLES.

I bath my 10 month old boy also in it. He goes to bed quite easily. However, try the following and get a good routine going.
    Supper
Play until he is almost tired
    Nice hot bath in Kiddy-Calm
Off to bed immediately with bottle or breast
Room dark with only night light
Say words like 'doedoe time' or whatever you use for sleep

Try the same thing for at least a week before you decide it doesn't work. Kids are very intelligent, they will test you to see if you stick to your guns. Routine are for sure boss!

The thing is less sleep will lead to more hyperactivity and more hyperactivity will cause less sleep. I am a firm believer that you have to know the signals of when you baby is tired and that he has to sleep as soon as he shows the signals. I am no expert, but can only share my experience.

Also, the book by Megan Faure and Ann Richarson titled Baby Sense is a recommended read regarding the sleep signals. I don't agree with everything they say, but regarding the sleep signals, I have practices it with my daughter and now son and it WORKED for me.

    Try it.

Good luck and let me know

Thanks Missy

Well by now he is 8months old - crawling, standing against things, trying to walk, hes sleeping patterns are somewhat better now - he has like 1 bottle through the night SOMETIMEs 1 and a bit - ive come to notice that his tummy wakes him at night - he has a problem with constipation - so i am hoping this is why he does not sleep through yet

Have you managed to sleep train her? I am trying, try dim the lights, put the tv low if not off and just make things quiet for his night sleep - but even that is at times in vain - and other nights he is passed out by 7?

Thanks Juanita - i also heard that Red is a terrible colour for hyperactive kids - but his room is natural colours,

Thanks Ladies

im not sure how true this is but my friend has a very very hyper active lg and her pead advised her to tone down the colours of her bedroom and also not to wear very very bright colours, like red!

As i said, not sure how accurate this is, but maybe worth reading up about

Hi

i just posted the same thing the other day: Unsettled / Hyperactive

My daughter is almost 9 months old and crawling, standing etc - hardly sleeps during the day - 10min naps, doesn't sleep without being rocked and wakes up 2/3 times at nite for a milk bottle.

The ladies on Moomie advised me that she shouldnt be waking up for a feed and i need to sleep train her - or teach her to self soothe.

I know how you feel - funny enough she use to sleep so well between 2 - 5 months, she had a great routine but now everything is haywire.
