Broncho-pneumonia (RSV Infection)

Same thing here and yesterday my LG got tested for RSV. Was traumatic for both me and her!

We are waiting for results but she cannot go to creche until everything is cleared. In our case the paed does not think she has RSV but we did the test as a measure of precaution.

am glad you started this topic, am battling with my almost 1 year and this is the second time it happens. he is also at daycare and i cant help but wonder if thats the place for him to be. I took him in on Sunday and the doctor prescribed an antibiotic for him. shuu its really tough he has lost so much weight and refuses to eat am at cross road can anyone recommend something that I can give him for his appetite. am currently giving him scotss emulsion but doesn't seem to be helping.

RSV is tough for young babies as they are unable to cough properly to release phlegm etc. Once they get older and start moving around they tend to handle illness better.

You will find that he may get it again and you won't even realise it.

The fact is that there are some kids who get really sick and others that don't seem to have as many issues when they get sick.

It is perfectly normal for all kids to get 10 mini colds per year where they will have a slight runny nose etc and this can occur even if they are not in school, but yes kids do tend to pass germs around at school.

It is important that you discuss the school policy when it comes to sick kids. While it is understandable that parents have to work, it is unfair to send your sick kid to school. When they are toddlers it isn't as serious, but the school should be really strick when it comes to babies.

I must just state though that Dylan had RSV at 5 months and he seemed a bit chesty but not really sick and he didnt' have a fever so I had no idea he had RSV and sent him to school. He was the only baby though so no risk.

On monday the Paed prescribed the Singuliar antibiotic and I had to buy the Aerochamber + inhaler. He is still coughing but not that much.

My little 7 month old was also in hospital with the same virus. I had asked the paed about this and he said chances of them getting it again is very good but not the symtoms wont be nearly as bad as the first time they get it and they wont need to be hospitalised again for it.

My son was in hospital for 4 days and diagnosed with the RSV, now i'm sceptical about taking him to Daycare again. Is my concern valid or i'm just being pathetic?
